final stages of getting the hemi put back together.

primary carb, I think it is a Carter AFB 4621S.

When adjusting the idle screw, can't get it adjusted between dying at idle and 1500 rpms.

with only a 1/4 turn of the screw it goes from dying to 1500 rpms at idle. What could be wrong?

can't find any vacuum leaks, everything else looks good.

thanks!

Sounds like your idle mixture is too lean. The idle mixture screw adjustment is limited with leaded-in set screws on the rear carb, and the front carb idle mixture screws are leaded-in themselves and can't be adjusted unless you remove the lead. Try opening up the throttle adjustment on the front carb a little, so you can reduce the throttle adjustment on the rear carb to turn the idle circuit on a little more. Back the idle mixture adjustment screws out as far as they'll go. Make sure your pcv valve is working right, too. Good luck

One more thing, see if you can get it to idle right with the vaccuum advance disconnected. Maybe it's giving you too much advance when it sees a little vaccuum.
