I found these today on the internet. I have always liked these wheels but have never touched a set, so I know nothing about them. He said they were aluminum centers with chromed steel lip. Is this right?? How good do these wheels clean up on average as far as the aluminum goes?
Guy is asking $75 bucks.....is that average price for these used?

I thought the real American racing "200S" also called the "cokebottle" rim were all cast alum, others may know if yours are just copies. I have a set I got with the car, 14x8, which is I think a little rare, I like the look, even though 14" is not my first choice. AR still makes them I believe in an up to 17" version.

Those are the "daisy" style or I think the correct name is 200-S series. I have 7 and must say they look cool but are a pain. I bought 3 mint wheels with 4 tires last year for $160 thinking I would just get one more wheel. Well they do still make them but in nothing smaller that 16 or 17 inch if I remember right. Bought another set of 4 two weeks ago for $100 with skinny white walls and am still trying to figure out how to make a set of 4. Some surface stuff will clean up but the rust in the grooves didn't and some of mine were flaking around the lug nut area. I believe there are two versions one with chrome spokes and paint on the sides and another with the entire center painted. That is probably a fair price for something like that which I would consider suitable for a rat rod. I have seen good pairs sit for sale at $300 and single sit at $225. Maybe you could have them blasted and powdercoat them silver so they look more like an all aluminum wheel?

My brother picked up a set of four 15x8.5's in the GM car bolt pattern for $200.00. They are the early ones that are one piece aluminum. They show up on ebay occasionally if you keep an eye out.

I saw a set of larger ones (17"?) on a 70 Z-28 and they looked better than the 15" do. Normally I don't like the bigger diameter wheels, but those looked great.

I have a pair of 15X7 Unilugs and have had them on Craigslist for awhile,No takers.

There are a few different versions of the 200S (aka Daisy, aka Coke Bottle).

The originals are one piece cast aluminum with a machined lip, much like the Torq Thrust D. I believe these were introduced around 1969. I had a set of these, and it took several years of hunting to find a matched set of 15x7 and 15x8.5. 14-inchers are far more common.

There were also some 16-inch bead lock produced for slicks.

In the early-mid 70's they came out with the modular two piece wheel [edit]called the CP 200 [edit] (as you have) utilizing the chrome steel rim. Most all of these you'll come across are rusted beyond repair. As with most chromed wheels of the era, they didn't weather very well.

In the last 5-10 years they reintroduced them as a two piece polished aluminum design. You can get them in 15 and 17 inch sizes.

As with the Torq Thrust, there were a few copies of the original style made by other companies. I've never seen any knock-off of the later styles.

The wheels are American 200-S.They are currently repoped in the 2 piece design. Aluminum center,steel outer,chrome plated. The manufacturing process is like a Cragar S/S. The originals are one piece aluminum. rough cast center with apolished outter. The 7",8 1/2" are both pretty common. The 15x10 are tougher to find. The 15x4 are nearly impossible to find. It took me 3 years to find a set. I currenly have 4 15x7,6 15x8 1/2,2 15x10, and 3 15x4. I would love to find another 15x4. I'm also looking for 15x12 which I have never seen but I believe were produced. A buddy of mine had a pair of the 16" ones, he may still.

The wifes car. I actually bought this set new in 1978. I restored them 5 years ago. Blasted the center,sanded and polished the outer rim. Didn't take to long,about 3 hours each. I painted the spokes,very low maintance. Polish the outtrs once or twice a year. The centers just wash off. The new style center caps fit the old wheels also.

I picked up a set of 15x7s one piece aluminum in a Mopar bolt pattern for $100 off Craigslist a few months back. I've always loved this style wheel, but I'm a cheap [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean] and didn't want to pay what people usually ask for a nice set.

I bought a set of all-aluminum 200-S in 2002 or 2003 for just over $200 per wheel. I picked up an earlier model with the steel rim from ebay for $25 or so for my spare.

The wheels you have, and described above, were called CP-200.

I love the true 1 piece aluminum 200S and will get another set soon I hope. The two piece style I'm not so crazy about.
