After longer than I care to admit I recently went to the truck terminal and picked up a reproduction AAR hood. To me it looks great except for what I think is a rather strange looking gap in the fiber glass. The hole inside the scoop area on each side looks rather strange to me. I think it is best described with the following picture:

Is that large gap correct? Looks like it will let air/water in between the top and bottom. I have no idea what this area is suppose to look like.

did you get yours from Year One?
mine has the same exact thing and I don't think the Year One hood is good for a true AAR

mine also dips and is not flush with the front valence

ASC&P makes the best AAR cuda hoods but they are pricey

oh well I still like my hood for its weight

Interesting. I did no realize the factory hoods also had these fairly large holes on the sides. I had considered filling in the gaps.

RylisPro I recall seeing a post about the interesting hood pin setup you installed several months ago while researching for a hood for my project car. In my case after being advised to avoid Penstar I took a gamble and bought one of their end of season clearance hoods. The price was great and John at Penstar provide the best communications I have every received on any ebay purchase. I am very satisfied with the hood; however the "cut outs" on each side of the inside part of the scoop look very odd to me. On your pictures I cannot really see the gaps/"cut outs" I show. Does your hood have the "cut out" shown more clearly in the second picture I posted above?

Yep that is what I am talking about!

I got such a good deal I was thinking maybe I was sold a hood with some type of defect. These cutouts looked sort of out of place and I have been somewhat concerned ever since I picked up the hood.

Thanks for posting the detailed pictures. I feel better!

heres a trick i learned.

the correct way to open an AAR hood: Put your hand into the scoop PALM SIDE DOWN and grab the bottom part of the hood NOT THE TOP. and pull towards you. the hood will open.

if you grab the top of the scoop and lift, it will crack eventually
