I am starting to shop around for a driveshaft for my '74 Duster. I have swapped in a 440/727 with a 8-3/4. From the output shaft to the yoke is 48-1/4 inches. I have a 7290 yoke on the rear and want to match it with the slip yoke (I want to use a 7290 slip yoke). My question is should I start hitting junk yards looking for a driveshaft that is in good enough shape to have shortened (by a driveshaft shop) or should I brake down and order a new driveshaft (from some one like Dynotech Engineering?

Order A New Driveshaft or Shorten a core?

I think there is a nice HD driveshaft for an A body in the classified ads by a member named Locomotion.

Just my , but I'd save yourself the hassle of shipping and have Driveshafts Unlimited in Arnold, MO make one for you. You'd have it same day or the next depending on how busy they are. It's super easy to find...Hwy 55 to the Richardson Rd exit and take the outer road from Vogel past the 1st stoplight. Continue on the outer road and hang a right at the next stop sign. Go up the hill 500ft and hang a left...you can't miss it. It's right across from Transmissions to Go...a place that builds a nice street/strip 727 for a good price.

Again, just my

Just saw this one on Craigslist, but I don't know what size yoke and u-joints it is running. It's probably too long as well.

I used Fort Wayne Clutch and Brake(Indiana IIRC). Had it in 3 days to my door. I got he HD 3" shaft and it was 300 bucks shipped to my house. They have a STD shaft for 225 last time I checked. That was slip Yoke U-joints and shaft. I got the Non greasable u-joints too. They were spicer parts.

Tom

I found them on ebay but called direct.

I got a super deal on a Mopar kit off Ebay (like $80 for everything new and complete) otherwise I'd have just brought a J/Y one to my local shaft place. Shipping is expensive on oversize stuff these days.
