Got a 1954 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Convertible. It has a 331 Hemi in it. It was taken out of storage recently. After doing the usual stuff attempted to start the engine. Primed the carb it started; however, the only way it will start is if fuel is sprayed into the carb. Once it starts it stays started and runs fine. The glass bowl with the fuel filter in it is full; however, the only way to start is spray fuel into the carb. I am no expert on carbs. Anyone have any suggestions on what the issue could be.

Accelerator pump in the carb bad. Time to rebuild the carb.

Stumpy,

Thanks for the reply. I kind of thought that's where it was headed. Next question Does anyone know of a place that can rebuild that carb?

Jeff

What Stumpy said, eng off/remove air cleaner & pull the throttle at the carb & see if you have any squirt. rather than a complete rebuild you likely could get by with tossing in another pump tho it'd be better to go thru it especially since it has been in storage as the rest of the carb systems are likely gummed up to some degree. You could take the top off & replace the pump shaft/plunger assy. Might be a carter WCFB 2041S & either get a kit locally which will have the plunger or there's one on eBay. The owner of "the carb shop" in Eldon Missouri (decent guy to deal with) might sell you an AP seperately. Google it

Is that carb. a Carter WCFB? If so there not that hard to do, finding the proper kit may be the hardest part. I've done a few of them in the past when I owned my 1957 Chyrsler 300, it had two of them on it. PM me if your interested in having me do it for you
