So I am trying to help my friend track down the 1965 Hemi Coronet his grandfather bought new from Dishman Dodge here in Portland on 82nd. He is under the impression it was a drag pack car with higher rear end gears, aluminum front end, etc. He does not have a vin but he knows all his grandfathers info such as name, address when car was purchase, ssn and other info. I have tracked down lost titles before but never have looked for a car with no vin. I do work for Chrysler but there is no support for something like this from Chrylser that I know of. Any one have any ideas?? He believes the car is still located here in Oregon?? Any help is appreciated

Dishman Dodge here in Portland on 82nd.

Darrell Davis wrote a number of books with VIN lists with original "shipped to" dealer numbers. "The 1965 Dodge HEMI-CHARGER Guide" is one of them.

Do you have the DEALER # for Dishman Dodge? Are they still in business?

Was he the original owner? Did he get $$$ help from Chrysler and/or the dealership?

Eastland Dodge, Inc.
5050 S. E. 82nd St.
Portland, OR 97266
dealer # 58794

Is this the same address? Did this dealer become Dishman or the other way around?

What color was the '65 HEMI-CHARGER "Coronet" white/light tan? Did it have a name on it? When was it purchased?

Yes that is where the dealer was located. I am not entirely sure how long it has been closed but I think it has been at least 30 years?? I messed up the name in the original post. It was Eastland dodge not Dishman dodge which still exists The building is now a thrift store.

dealer # 58794 Eastland Dodge did not receive a '65 HEMI car. Did the dealership exist in the spring of '65 (I'm thinking - NO!)?

For additional help, you need to address the other questions asked. ..... or this will die a slow death in "lost & found".

So my friends grandfather's name was Walter Sabbe. The car's color was a royal blue color?? Not a b5 or petty blue, kind of a robins egg blue of sorts. My friend sent me a picture and described it as light steel blue metallic. He also said that it was a 500 model. I wish I could give more descriptions or some other info to help?? I am not real good with my older b bodes. My friend thinks he special ordered it and bought it new. My friend has been calling the dealer Eastman dodge on 82nd but I am pretty sure it is Eastland dodge like we discussed above. I will ask around at work tomorrow to see if any of the old guys remember the dealership so we can be sure we are discussing the same dealer. I wish Chrysler had a data base to check old records but I think most of those where burnt in a fire years ago??? Here is a picture of the car.

The only '65 HEMI Dodges were the A990 "Race Cars", 2 door sedans w/aluminum front ends & bumpers, thin glass, 2 lightweight (van) tan bucket seats. Pretty much track ONLY race cars. 101 built.

None of the "blue" cars were shipped to the west coast, but the Dodge City, Spokane, WA car was a "special order paint" car. All of the "company cars" were WHITE and shipped to dealers unknown (TO ME at this time).

Does any of this sound like the car your friend's grandfather had? Here's one in tan.

There is a Racer site for old timers that raced in the old days, that has a list of most 1964-65 and 68 Hemi Built cars. I have not been on the site for 6 months or so and will have to look up the Link to it. The List tells who raced the cars new and other information about them. There is one other on moparts that might have plenty of information and I will try to get him to post but that has been next to impossible lately because someone shot their mouth off about what he posted and he has not posted since.

That sure looks like a '65 Plymouth Belvedere 2 door hardtop - NONE were factory built with a HEMI. & I wouldn't think it would be sold NEW at a Dodge dealership.

How old is that pic?

this "TRIBUTE" '65 Plymouth Belvedere II HEMI A990 car was at Gateway Classics, but it is no longer on their web-site "FOR SALE" or "SOLD"

They do, if you have the VIN. & Darrell Davis put all the '65 HEMI car info (& a bunch of others) in a book.

Ok, you are asking about a 65 Hemi Dodge, but you post a picture of a 65 Plymouth hard top (no Hemi available in hard top 65's Dodge or Plymouth from the factory). Dishman Dodge is (still) here in Spokane Washington less than a mile from where I live. Do you have any accurate facts? If you do it would sure be helpful if you want to zero in on the car you have in mind.

Sorry, I have no vin, I already tried to get that from him but the car was sold in the late 80's He told me the car was a coronet but as soon as I saw the picture I thought it was a belvedere as well?? What was the biggest engine you could get in '65?? My buddy told me the car had an aluminum front end.

Race cars pick up a lot of non-factory original parts over the years.

The largest engine available in a '65 Belvedere II 2-door hardtop would've been a 426 cu.in. "STREET WEDGE".
The aluminum front end was part of the "RACE HEMI" Super-Stock packages: Dodge HEMI-CHARGER (W01) & Plymouth SUPER COMMANDO 426 (R01).

I'm not a racer, but that picture looks more recent than the '80s. Hoosiers, aluminum jack, not brand new enclosed trailer, wheels on the Plymouth, etc.. Is this a picture of his grandfather's car or one that looks like it?

If the Plymouth in the picture you posted is the car you are looking for, I'd call Gateway Classics. There are too many coincidences 2 door hardtop/color/HEMI/rocker mouldings/dash tach/hood scoop.

Show your friend this pic & ask if that's the hood scoop he remembers.

No aluminum front ends in 1965. The 65 A990 cars had light weight steel front end parts. Fenders, doors, hood, hood scoop, bumper and brackets.
They did have aluminum door hinges. The 64 A864 cars had aluminum parts as well as some 64 max wedge cars.

So I talked to my friend again and he said the Belvedere picture was for color reference only. He said it was a Coronet and I do believe that because a few years ago he gave me a used set of Iskenderian lifters still in the original box and they where from this car. His grandfathers handwriting says '65 Coronet. He sent me a picture of the car.

The car sold by Walter Sabbe around 1989? and was sold to a guy Dennis. He raced it for a few years and then sold it to a guy in Eugene, Oregon named Carl Steinbeck who owned a muffler shop in Eugene named True Line alignment/automotive. Carl raced the car a few years at Portland International Raceway up until he reportedly died in 2012. Carl's kids possibly have possession of the car but they have had some trouble with the law and have been unavailable. My friend (reid) said very early on in the car's life, the 426 was yanked and a 440 was installed in it's place but his grandfather kept all the pieces including the engine to put it back to original. All these parts went to Carl when he bought the car. Apparently Carl put a different motor in the car or had the 440 rebuilt and the car had cooling system issues. The car was worked on a few times by Jackson Specialties in Hillsboro, Oregon. My friend last physically saw the car in 2012 at the Mopar Nationals in Woodburn, Oregon. After that he believes Carl's kids either sold the car or it is still in their possession.
