Its going on a b body 15x8 rim with 323 gears. Would I be able to tell a difference in performance between the two? Or is the difference in looks all im dealing with here?

The 255/60/15 looks like about a 27" tire and the 275 closer to 28". As far as performance, I guess it depends on what you are after. The shorter tire will sightly reduce overall gearing and (very) slightly improve acceleration. The wider 275's may (slightly) improve launch if you have plenty of HP.

I think its mostly looks (and fit). I would think 275's would be tight in the rear and no go on the front. Measurements would need checked and backspace dialed in just right to fit the 275's if the sheetmetal and ride height are stock'ish.

In general, either tire is on the tall side. With 3.23's the taller tires favor cruising vs acceleration unless you have a really big or boosted engine.

I run 275s on a 69 B body on factory 15x8 rims with no clearance issues.

Go with the 255/60 although I usually run that on a 7" rim.On a stock 383 with 3.23 gears I would want the shorter tire myself.

I love the 275 60 15s on an 8 in rim for my 68 Charger.

Compared to modern cars, a 323 is a bit buzzy, the taller 275s help with that..

295/50's on the back of mine. I wanted the nice wide tire look but didn't want it sitting all jacked up from too tall of a tire.

275 looks tougher, but with 3.23s and a 383 in front of it you likely won't be happy with how unresponsive it seems.

Get the tire you want, but dont be too concerned about gearing. The ONE inch height difference equates to 3.7% in gearing. In other words, if you had a 3.23 27" tire car to start with, installing a 28" tire would have the same effect as switching to a 3.35 gear ratio (if such a ratio existed).
Or yet another way of looking at it, 3000rpm with a 27" would have to become 3111 rpm for the same MPH.

275/60. Anything less will look small on a 68 charger.

Can you explain the math behind this? As a common rule of thumb I've always figured 1" of tire to be about 6.5 points of gear. Your number is about double.

27 x 3.14159 = 84.8" traveled.
28 x 3.14159 = 88.0" traveled

88.0/ 84.8 = 1.0377. Significant figures not paid attention to of course.

3.77 % difference.

Have you looked at 255/70s? Great for road trips!

with no clearance issues with either on a 72 B body ive really liked either the 275-60/15 or the 295-50/15 both on a 8 inch wheel..

One needs to consider if future tire rotation is going to happen. I like to have the ability to rotate my tires, can't do that if you have different size tires. I think, the best all-around, on 4-corners is 255/60/15's. If one goes to the 275's up front, you'll probably be rubbing the framerails. Now, if you could care less about being able to rotate tires, I did like the 275's on 15x8's on the rear of my former '69 Charger 500 and 255's up front on 15x7's ( Magnum 500's )

Your math is correct, but your application is backwards. A taller tire (28") would give you a ratio closer to 3.11 NOT 3.35 when compared to a 27" tire 3.23 ratio. Installing a taller tire is effectively like going with a numerically lower gear ratio.
