I need some info on rear springs for the 65 b body. Can I get new ones or do I have to rebuild. Will a body work? Also should I replace the k member with the later model? Any help would be great thanks.

Yes you can get new ones. i don't think a body will work without longer front hanger. why change k member? is it a /6? if not no need to change.

the 65 dodge b-body has a 21" front segment for the rear springs. current super stock springs are 20" and the 66 and later xhd springs have a 22" front segment. i don't know of any 21" springs out there but probably could be made. 20" springs can be used with a different front hanger. the 22" can be used br either redrilling the existing hanger (this is what i did) or using a plymouth front hanger that is 1" shorter than the dodge. using a later k-member will cause interference with the transmission and trans floor tunnel. i guess it just depends on if thats something thats not a big issue with you.

springs and things/ espo a site sponser sells them new.
They run 150 bucks or so for a stock set.
+1 arch or +2 adds another 80 or so as I recall.
I just bought a set for my 65 coronet last year.

The 68 and up k-members fit, and will drop and bring back the motor. If you need more room you can do it, but may involve firewall work.

They make conversion mounts for the early b-bodies for everything though, so I don't think it is worth the trouble, unless you have a bent up or rusted through k-frame. Even if that were the case, the early b frames are still out there.

Well I can tell you plymouth frt hangers and later springs wont work.I know tried to use a set on my 65 and they wont work unless you change the spring position and ther isnt enough room on the stock hanger to redrill it.Rocky

after reading your reply i went out to the garage and checked a '64 plymouth hanger against my origanal '65s that were redrilled for 22" front segment xhd spring. the plymouth front hanger is a perfect fit for the later 22" front segment springs.

I have ESPO 6 leaf on my 64 polara for a few years now. I believe your wheel well openings are the same as mine. From the axle centerline vertically to the top of the wheel well opening is 11 1/2 inches. You could play with a floor jack to see where you want the car to sit and order + or - from the 11 1/2" measurement

the later k-frame moves the engine-trans back about 1 1/2". a tranny mount can be fabbed, or something (?), but the tranny interferring with the floor tunnel is the biggest issue. my '65 coronet was extremely solid so for me cutting floor boards up was not an option. if your doing floorpan work then transmission tunnel work probably isn't a big deal.

Your local spring shop can redo you original springs cheaper than you can buy new and you can get them back in about two days normally.

The biggest reason to change the K-member is that '68 up has an improved idler arm support bracket. The newer style supports the idler arm at top and bottom with a bolt through the center. The older style is only supported at the bottom.

Mancini Racing has the correct spring hangers for early B body cars. You can run 21 inch springs on those cars or change over A body springs or E body springs. You just have to buy the correct hangers to do the trick.

For a street car a good way to go is to use E body replacement springs with the right hangers. For a race car, go with the one inch longer hangers and put Super Stock springs on there.

If you go the E body spring route then the guys at Firm Feel are the ones to call. They are the ones who recommend E body springs on the early B body cars for street performance use.

Sure, works perfect if you ignore the one inch change in wheelbase, shorter driveshaft and mis-alignment on the shock absorbers!

If you need the correct SS spring hangars for a '65 "B" body, PM me. I have a pair that I used for mockup purposes when I moved my springs in. They have never been used.

not to mention that it opens up a huge selection of headers since you would use '66-up headers, better weight distribution and more room for clutch fan/electric fan.

I guess you are talking about rear hangers because my car has a relocation kit. There are no hanger in the front right?

These are the aftermarket bolt in SS hangars which replace the original bolted in hangars. If you have moved the springs into the longitudinals, as I have, they won't do you any good.
