This engine has a stock bottom end, maybe low compression, don't know since it had a rebuild sometime in it's life. Edelbrock heads with roller rockers and an Air Gap intake with Street Demon 750 cfm. It has TTI 1-3/4" step headers to 3" collector. TCI 3K converter and a TCI 727. 8-3/4 rear with 391's in a 2 case. What's the best cam for this combo?

Something in the 230-240@.050 range would make for a decent street strip camshaft.

I actually ran a very similar combo for many years.

The old Ultradyne 231/239 @.050 Hydraulic on 108 in at 102 was always a great 340 cam

The comp ratio is probabLy low, I would go no higher than 230@ .050 on the intake any more and you will have a week low end.

@ ademon,

I was thinking the same that's why I like the ultradyne, with the 102 ICL the closing event will still work well with the lower CR. And if he's over about 9.5 I'd put it in at 105

I used to run a MP 528 solid and it was real mellow.

Back in the day I had a saying about these type of motors "when in doubt 480-230 gets it done" and it did for low comp. stock type of builds. But I`d go Isky if it was me..............

I have used all the mopar performance style cams 284-484 is the best one of the old style for street /strip and 10.5 comp
292 509 on 104 center by far most radical of hyd cams lousy low end without at least 4.10s and stick goes like a bat 3500 to 7200.way higher then a 340 should go stock at least 11.0 comp advance 4 degree's
284-474 not enough power overall at least 9.5 comp
Comp 268 single pattern runs great all around and good for low comp down to 7.5 comp
Winner for me Custom ground racer brown great low end and don't quit until 6500 Based on a 68 340 stick cam with more lift and different center line

I loved my Whiplash cam from Hughes when my 340 was about 8.5:1 comp. I had stock heads and 3.91s. Cam made awesome low end and midrange power. Sounded wicked and very street friendly. Ran a best of 13.26 with 727 and stock converter. 10" converter put it into the 12.90s. Very happy with it.

I ran the MP 284-.474 in a stock 340 and thought it was a good cam. It was almost to much for the stock converter. Hughes cams have ran hard in everything I've put them in.

Funny you say that. I have a Isky mega .480/232@.050 I removed from a "core" 360 I bought. I kept it on the shelf because everyone tells me how hard they run.
