The problem with these universal joints are they don't allow for chassis flex like the OEM coupler does.
could you explain this? i'm trying to visualize why not but I can't. is there a lack of forward/backward travel?

yes there is... the unibody frame design gets lots of flex between frame rail and cab ( have you tried to open the door when the car jacked up? ), and shaft is a piece in the middle of both body sections.
only way to half accept this universal fixed steering coupler is using frame rail connectors ( and still will need to be checked)
Thanks Nacho! hope all is well!

Borgeson has a solution, they list it for Dodge trucks but they may custom make them

would be the same than break the safety shaft plastic pins into the column shaft
Not sure what you are saying here. The Borgeson unit allows for the joint to slide in and out some.
Nothing wrong with the Borgeson unit you linked to. The one Cudajon posted a pic of will lead to problems.

I got one of those aftermarket shafts off of a 1990 w250 at a junkyard. I used it to build the shaft on my newport when I put a manual steering box in. It has long splines to let it slide into the ujoint. Lots of steering joints at junkyards that are the same spline, way cheaper too. [image] [/image]

I agree with above, the firm feel coupler and removing the safety plugs will allow the shaft to slide if needed.
Why spend extra for the whole deal?
