Hey guys!! My 04 Ram has a windshield that is almost impossible to see out of when it's raining. Alot of little spots on the glass that looks like someone tire shined it. Tried lots of different glass cleaners, Comet, and a lexan pollish. Absolutely ZERO difference after each one. New wipers didn't help either. I was gonna go to a body shop and see if a wax and grease remover would help any, or maybe they have a suggestion.
I'd really like to get it cleaned, it's really dangerous when I can't tell where the road is sometimes

Don.

What you have is Road Rash... kinda like sand blasting... from road grime.. dirt ,mud,ect.. There are shops that can fix it to a degree..If its to bab,it is probaly cheaper to get a new windsheild

I have no idea if it works, but I've heard of people using a really fine grit sandpaper to remove scratches from windshields. Would something like that work for him?

Thanks guys!! I don't notice any pits or anything on the glass but the wipers just kind of leave a foggy wet fisheyed look on the glass. I guess I'll have to try a few other glass shops in town and see if they can try anything. Not liking the new glass idea but I figured that could be my only good option.

I had a 40 year old piece of glass that has something on it that just wouldn't come off. Tried everything with no success. I took it up to the local auto glass installer, he took some Fast Orange hand cleaner and rubbed it around for awhile on the glass. When he got done it looked like new. Give it a try. Good Luck

barkeepers friend

they sell it at the grocery store - I use it on my chrome and glass - it's the best at removing grime and makes it dome up like new.... it's a very fine abrasive that dont scratch

try it!

Comet? If it wasn't scratched before, that would do it for sure.

People use BonAmi cleaning powder for glass although it says right on the container don't use on windshields. Two kinds of BonAmi...Cleaning Powder (yellow container) and Cleanser (shiny gold container). I have used the cleaning powder on a '72 Plymouth and '89 Toyota windshields before applying Rain-X. Didn't notice any ill effects and they were squeaky clean. I bought a piece of black ceramic tile and tested both kinds of BonAmi on it and didn't notice any ill effects or difference between them.Comet and Ajax are too abrasive. Sandpaper? Got to be kidding. I'd just replace the windshield. Polishing out your problem will be a major hassle or expense. Good luck.

use 00 0r 000 steel wool with a good glass cleaner. Its been used in body shops for years to clean off overspray. WILL not scratch the glass. Works very good.

Yep. Laquer thinner on a rag to remove tar and oil. Then 000 or 0000 steel wool, then glass cleaner with old newspaper. Crystal clear afterwards. My mother-in-law had this dried on oil film and dust all over her car from, what I guess was parking near railroad tracks. The above method cleared up the windows perfectly. The paint was another matter.

Another vote for steel wool.

Something simple to try would be a warm vinegar/water solution. I used this on our 2005 Escape and it worked great. We had exactly what you're describing. Not the greatest smelling thing around, so you may hear, "Man, that's one stinky dude." as you drive by. But the laughs on him as you'll have really clear glass to see the reaction you get as you give him a quick lesson in international sign language, if you so incline.

Cheers
