I'm ready to paint my stripes on my hood of my 70 runner with organsol black. My question is ...when applying the 440+6 decal over the black...what will keep the sticker on. As rough as organasol is...did the factory have a secret or did the stickers just not stick well?-----any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

NO ONE KNOWS????????? My information shows that the stripes were oraganasol. Obviously the 440-6 stickers didn't last too long on this unsmooth surface. Did people just replace these stickers every couple of years or was there glue added to assure that the stickers stayed on or what?

If you intend to spray down that 40 grit organsol finish on a 70 RR...it's not correct

The factory sprayed Ditzler DDL-9355 "fine grained" Acrylic Lacquer Organsol

DDL-9355 hasn't been available for years as far as I know. The closest I found was from Roger Gibson Auto Restoration supplies. Yes, it is a little rougher than the original, but just lay down very wet. As for the stickers I did sand slightly where they lay just to give some "tooth" and smooth the grain some. No problems in several years now.

I use a black epoxy, then a double coat... comes out very smooth this way if you do it in the right conditions and the right laquer thinner.

Just thinking out loud......do you suppose I might be able to get away with.....putting down a used set of decals and then spraying the stripes lightly around and over the decals. After the stripes have dried...then removing and replacing with new decals. Just thinking......

Not something I'd do,...but if I did, I'd use the a pair of the same decals (mfg'd) for "masking" as the ones that replace the painted decals, as some mfg's trimming/die cutting of decals is shaped differently, plus I'd put down a black base before "masking" with the decal, because if the decal "shrinks" over time, body color, or whatever base your using might show around the edges?...

If I were to do this...I would go with a black base. I think you've got a great idea with masking the new decals. That makes sense.-----That's why i keep returning to Mopart's....You guys give me great ideas and advice! Thanks
