Are they usable in high performance applications at all? I would think the LX and truck guys arent swapping in 727s in their cars

If your talking putting one behind your engine you
need to get the hyd version... NOT the electric version
(the hyd version has 1 pin or 3 pins on the electric
plug, not the NSS plug).. then change out the input
shaft so you can use a high stall conv... if guys
are using the lock up version they put a spacer behind
the engine so they can put a thicker conv in.. the
conv with a decent stall and lock up cost about $1800 and up
EDIT
you need too change the pump gears or the pump assm
to match the 727 conv if you go non lock up

The LX car NAG1 seems stout to around the 1000hp mark but much beyond that they seem to go th400. The truck trans are decent to about 500hp but overall they suck. PCS just came out with standalone NAG1 ecu. The only reason you don't see more nag1 swaps is because of lack of controllers.

Mopar to the bone!!!

Otherwise known as a Mercedes 722.6.

The HEMIs usually will run a 45RFE/545RFE, same unit, just one is programmed for 4 speeds, one for 5.

I love the one in my SRT Challenger. Once I installed a cooler thermostat and the trans fluid ran 25 degrees cooler,it will HIT nice on the first three shifts.
I would put on behind stroker big block in a second

I assume someone make a different output shaft so you
can get rid of of the rubber coupler and can go to a
slip yoke... what does that nagy weigh

I've built them both and wouldn't use either in a race application because of the gear ratio's, converter choices, parasitic drag and/or weight. Street use is fine.

The 545 comes in with a dry weight of a 175lbs and the 722.6 right around the same weight as a 727.

I run a 545 in my truck and rebuild it every 100 passes or if and when the clutches burn up before that.

The 518 weighs a big 147.. what a 727.. its got to
be right at a 100 lbs or a bit more... I know the
OD and tail shaft assembly feel pretty heavy

I took a bare 727, 904, 833 iron case, T56 and a 722.6 and weighed them side by side a few years ago. If my memory serves me right the 722.6 was within a few pounds of the 727. + or - I can't remember but I do believe heavier and a 115lbs rings a bell but I'd have to check my old notes to be sure. My memory just has to remember where I put them now.

There isn't any room on the NAG1 as there is no extension housing and the park gear rides in the very back of the case, not to mention that you would have to fabricate a different output shaft as they have never been made with a slipyoke. All Mercedes transmissions use a bolt on yoke.

Wonder if you could take a 722 from an AWD, remove the transfer case adapter and then make up a tail shaft housing to support a slip yoke

I figured if the trans is any good that someone would
have built a output shaft and a tail shaft for it
to utilize a slip yoke.. but looking at the 2 WD there
isnt a bolting point at the rear so I guess it would
have to be the AWD version

I don't have any technical input, but I do recall my cousin having numerous issues with the trans in his '04 Ram Daytona. He couldn't even get home from the transmission shop without toasting something in the transmission. It put down something like 500hp at the wheels with a Procharger and other mods. He ended up taking the supercharger off just so he could drive the truck without breaking it.

Even the AWD are bolt on yoke, they use a coupler that bolts on to the output shaft.
