Stick with the 727, put a highway gear in the rear end and put a supercharger on the engine to more than make up for any lost power from the granny rear gear?

I have the 4L60E in the roadrunner and love it!!

BUT for a high performance engine i would say the 4L65 or 4L85 is a better choice.

Here are a couple things I'm against. When 1st is not low enough, when the top gear is not high enough and wide ratios.

The manufacturers have figured it out. That's why a 8 spd Hemi Ram can haul, accelerate, get mileage and have a low cruising rpm.
Most super luxury perf cars from Germany have 7,8 and 9 speeds. There are 11, 12 sec cars that can go 150-200mph.
A Viper with 6 speeds is strong out of the gate and car go 200mph.

I've done the 518 w lock up swap so I"m not just spewing here. You need alot of floor modifications and it's huge and inefficient. The ONLY reason to consider a 518, it's a Mopar trans.

It's not cheap but next time, I'm going with this.

69 Super Bee, 93 Mustang LX, 04 Allure Super

It would be nice if the guy that did the thread on that swap would share the drawings for that cross member. Some of the other stuff not so much but a good write up none the less.

What is this going behind? The A500 might be a better/easier fit depending on how much torque you plan to feed it.

Good trans, just be aware that unless you cough up the money for a T56 magnum, you will spend some $$$ doing trans upgrades if you plan to throw any amount of power at it. I think the most common units are only rated to 450ft-lbs.
