I have reset the computer a few times & keep getting this code. I know there is a purge valve under the brake booster & one in the back by the right rear wheel. How do I check these out to figure out which is bad?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Tom

The 1 in back is most likely the vent valve. The 1 in front is the purge valve. As stated I would check all the hoses from the front to the back. A good scan tool will allow you to activate the solenoids to make sure they open and close.

Check the hoses back by the tank. The evap hoses on my 03 SRT-4 are starting to split and crack on the ends where they hook to the canister. No codes on mine yet.

I did go over them from front to back & they look ok. Car is one owner & only 45,000 on it always garage kept. All I've ever done is change oil, & trans fluid & a trans solenoid. Is there a way to bench test the purge valve. My scan tool will not fire the solenoid.

I battled this same problem on my Ram for 5 months. I had a small crack on my fuel pump. My fuel pump was an in tank type. Don't know about the Neon. The best thing to do is to get a smoke test. Also check your gas cap.

It means that when the PCM comands the purge valve to open to purge the fuel vapors from the charcoal canister and check the system it should see a change in 02 and short term addaptive memory and it does not. The purge valve is connected to intake vacum and when the PCM comands it to open it should purge the fumes from the charcoal canister. So it could be the purge solenoid is stuck or one of the hoses from the intake to the canister is cracked or broke or even the PCM itself. But usually if its a PCM or the purge valve solenoid winding or and electrical problem it will usually set the purge solenoid code. If you have a tech you trust take to him and let him test the system with the scanner as he can comand the purge solenoid to work and test the system. That is not a test for evap leaks it is a code for testing the evap purge air flow thru the canister and purge valve into the intake as a bad gas cap wont cause that code. Ron
