Changed a few things To try and reduce power at low speeds to get traction.
Had installed a ProForm 1050 mainbody to make the blower happy and that made traction worse.
So I modified/made linkage /drilled tapped tunable kill-bleeds and made the 1050 into a Vacuum secondary carb.
Made it WORSE
It would now do 300 ft 3rd gear burnouts from a roll. So I worked on the opening rate and made some headway. Turns out it still blows off the tires on a 2BBL. So nothing more there.
Looked into ways to pull timing out at launch.
That basically requires a 300 dollar MSD box and I`m not 100% sure that will be enough so I`m keeping my money in my pocket for now.
Recurved the dist to slow advance hoping to gain traction. Seemed to help on the street,,,I.E. shorter black strips on my road.LOL
Now the MT Drag Radials on the car are completetly wornout....smooth...
So,I bought Nitto 555R 325/50R15`s
A little big than the 295/55 MT`s.but not as drag only. Don`t hook as well but drive /look/fit REALLY nice.
Last night off to Quaker:80*+ med. humidity,,,not nearly as nice as my 11.35 run last month......65*& dry

1. vacuum secondaries.11.85@114mph 1.85-60ft.
spun and poor MPH.
2. Frustrated that it went slower/worse traction I went back to Mech Secondaries and installed the high drive ratio. raises boost from 3-lbs to 6-lbs.
Drove it off the line rolling into the throttle
11.57 @110mph 1.65-60ft. left good. That works But mph WAY down?
Too much timing with added boost????
3. Pulled 3* out 33 to 30*.
11.37@117mph 1.65-60ft. 3* = 7MPH!!!
Learned something right there....
4. Pulled 1.5* more 28.5* shifted higher 5,100 versus 4,800 all others........
11.36@116.94mph 1.65-60ft. 29*/30* is the the sweet spot as is.
5. Same, got greedy on the launch spun badly and gave up.
So the bigger CFM and boost w/less timing on top of reduced traction is about a .15 quicker.
Dead hooking it went 1.56 with a smaller carb.in better conditions.
I figure now with perfect traction and weather it would have ran an 11.18@118+mph.
At Norwalk subtract a 10th add 1/2mph.
So I`m now leaning towards some slicks for seeing how fast I can go,and save the street tires for everything else.
Any CHEAP ideas to make your own timing/launch control?????
Thought about some sort of air throttle,,,lazy action would let it hook..........

The M/T ET Street Radials I have used work better once the center dividers where worn off, they lasted a long time after the center treads where gone 9second Phil clued me into not taking them off after the center dividers where worn off He was correct on that Once you see cord in the middle, take them off

I will post a picture of the old tires later.......

I still have them, but they don`t even try to hook anymore.
My brother ran MT`s for a long time and when his got to where mine are they were junk.
I only got it to hook ONCE last month with the MT`s.
Can you explain how you got those to work???

I ran the 315x60x15 on both 10 and 12 inch rims, I ran them between 18 and 20 lb. They worked good on a good track, Not so good on the street or on a bad track I had the same size ET Streets on matching rims so I could switch them as needed, the ET streets (bias plys) work better on the street using between 9 to 12 lbs of air pressure on my gauge The ET Streets where slower on a good track and easier to drive on a bad track IHTHs Your deal may need a good pair of drag slicks

Are you running just mech advance in the dist.. or
using vac also.. if your running vac also you can do
a recurve on the mech and use a SMALL orifice/bleed
on the vac to slow that down but you would be using
the vac as your total advance

Would`nt you have to ue ported vacuum?

Yes I use vacuum advance for gas mileage/engine temp.
It is hooked below blower now.

Could you explain that further?
I would like to try something like that, but need a clear understanding.

I ran mine until the outer grooves where almost gone over the edge of the tires, that was when the cords started showing

What shocks do you have in the front? Front sway bar installed? If so ditch it.

What rear shocks?

I've never been a huge fan of the "shitto" drag radials. Some people like them but they arnt for me.

I wouldn't look to cutting timing yet. What kind of power does it make? Gear? Converter?

Stock 10-3/4 converter/3.33 Dana/no sway/ 90/10 front shocks/ .860 Torsion bars.S/S springs
Lifted the left wheel off the ground when it hooked,1.56-60ft. 117mph uphill.EST. 3,900lbs.
I knew the Nitto`s wouldn`t hook as good as the MT`s.
But they will last 5 times as long and can be driven in the rain.

You are going in the right direction. too bad you have to "de-tune" it. I'd be working on suspention so you could use full power.

I bet with a better radial it will cut a better 60 and be more consistant.

Without more converter or gear, you might not get much more out of it, unless it's spinning.

Yes already proved that.
But soft tires last about a week.

There are many things yet to be exhausted before saying that it's as good as it can get.
Traction control is the biggest gain on the table.
Want to try the water/meth injection under the bench too.
With good traction and race gas/timing bumped up I think it would touch the 10's at Norwalk/Columbus.
Quaker goes uphill and traction is hit and miss.
But it is the only place I can get to with my and the tracks schedule.

I think a lot of people are mis-lead on this. Traction control may make the car more consistent because you'll take power out to make it hook, but it will NOT make the car quicker.

Find a way to fix your traction problem... not your power problem!

What rear shocks are on it? If you get us some video, we can try to help you launch the car.

I would start by moving the RPM around on the two step. I can tell you that I can add/pull a lot of power out of my turbo car. But what I've found is that if you get the combo right (shocks/converter/RPM/etc...) the car will be WAY faster then by simply knocking power out of it.

Spend your time and effort on finding a way to use the power you have right now on tap. You'll be a lot further ahead in the long run.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

Here is my car leaving at 8psi, 3800rpm on the two step. (obviously didn't work.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGjej81qIDo

Here is the exact same tuneup, leaving on 8psi, but at only 3300rpm. 1.68 60ft.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC-fBT6VDzU

Here is the car with a looser converter (so it wasn't so violent on the tire at the transbrake release.) But it would tolerate 12psi on the launch at 3800rpm. Resulted in a 1.50 60ft.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tco9nDkGlNI

Just some food for thought...
