Changed a few things To try and reduce power at low speeds to get traction.
Had installed a ProForm 1050 mainbody to make the blower happy and that made traction worse.
So I modified/made linkage /drilled tapped tunable kill-bleeds and made the 1050 into a Vacuum secondary carb.
Made it WORSE
It would now do 300 ft 3rd gear burnouts from a roll.
So I worked on the opening rate and made some headway. Turns out it still blows off the tires on a 2BBL. So nothing more there.
Looked into ways to pull timing out at launch.
That basically requires a 300 dollar MSD box and I`m not 100% sure that will be enough so I`m keeping my money in my pocket for now.
Recurved the dist to slow advance hoping to gain traction. Seemed to help on the street,,,I.E. shorter black strips on my road.LOL
Now the MT Drag Radials on the car are completetly wornout....smooth...
So,I bought Nitto 555R 325/50R15`s
A little big than the 295/55 MT`s.but not as drag only. Don`t hook as well but drive /look/fit REALLY nice.
Last night off to Quaker:80*+ med. humidity,,,not nearly as nice as my 11.35 run last month......65*& dry
1. vacuum secondaries.11.85@114mph 1.85-60ft.
spun and poor MPH.
2. Frustrated that it went slower/worse traction I went back to Mech Secondaries and installed the high drive ratio. raises boost from 3-lbs to 6-lbs.
Drove it off the line rolling into the throttle
11.57 @110mph 1.65-60ft. left good. That works But mph WAY down?
Too much timing with added boost????
3. Pulled 3* out 33 to 30*.
11.37@117mph 1.65-60ft. 3* = 7MPH!!!
Learned something right there....
4. Pulled 1.5* more 28.5* shifted higher 5,100 versus 4,800 all others........
11.36@116.94mph 1.65-60ft. 29*/30* is the the sweet spot as is.
5. Same, got greedy on the launch spun badly and gave up.
So the bigger CFM and boost w/less timing on top of reduced traction is about a .15 quicker.
Dead hooking it went 1.56 with a smaller carb.in better conditions.
I figure now with perfect traction and weather it would have ran an 11.18@118+mph.
At Norwalk subtract a 10th add 1/2mph.
So I`m now leaning towards some slicks for seeing how fast I can go,and save the street tires for everything else.
Any CHEAP ideas to make your own timing/launch control?????
Thought about some sort of air throttle,,,lazy action would let it hook..........
