Apologies for the never ending questions as I prepare to have mechanic install this 410 smallblock in my '89 Diplomat AHB. I am gathering parts and getting close. Got the BM flexplate, Carter fuel pump, MP Cast Aluminum deep pan for 727 (ouch, $250), Prothane poly trans mount and engine mounts, Remflex collector and header gaskets (thanks to members recommendations.

I strongly want to run an engine oil cooler. Looks like the factory police one just isn't going to be a good option. So now I want to relocate the filter toward the front around the rad support, and an inline aux engine cooler. I want braided lines. Any feedback or recommendations will be read and greatly appreciated. The mechanic is a little help, but his time is money and I can't stand around there taking up his time with questions. Thanks again for all the help I have gotten already! I would be lost without you guys. Plenty of Chevy Sheep in my area, but no Mopar faithful like me.

Btw, I paid for the "test and tune" and it dyno'd at 469hp and 528lb/ft torque at 3200rpm. Yikes! Frame connectors to follow soon!

No apologes needed bro as that is what we are here for is to ask questions and help each other solve issues/make good decisions. Your torque numbers are impressive to say the least!. I'm assuming the long block is done. You could sandwich a round aluminum adapter inbetween the flat OE filter plate that fits the recess in the block (drill extra holes in the thin OE plate) and the filter but with you wanting to relocate the filter somewhere else you could drill/tap the 2 block holes to 3/8 NPT then run 2 lines forward to your cooler and filter. Make sure the fittings you select are full flowing ones as that is the main oil feed. I'm assuming the long block is already finished & you can pack the block passages above where you are drilling with a rag to keep shavings from going up further. 2 filters parallel might be a good idea as they have to be a restriction in order to filter. You might checkout Sanborns' oiling mods. Go to www.moparchat.com then scroll down to and click on "circle track chat" & his thread is in a sticky at the top of the page. He's one of the countries' foremost SB oiling gurus (his cooling thread is just as good) & the best thing is alot of his info can be used on big blocks as well. with fluid flow keep in mind that any restriction reduces the flow of the rest of that circuit to the dia of that 1 restriction no matter how big the rest of the line/fittings are

why is the stock oil cooler not an option?

you could always get another stock cooler and add it inline or use a bigger stacked B&M cooler.

mount a smaller cooler with a fan in the fender well up front maybe?

found these pics for referance for you larry.. 410 in a 89

moparts member j5440 not sure what intake carb but there is that stock breather you were looking to fit under the hood.

seems to have the stock oil cooler plumbed down the fender brace rod like stock.

Thanks Robert. I'll check out those links. I appreciate all the help. I feel bad because I never seem to have enough knowledge to help anyone. I am always the one in need!

Scratchin, I was planning on using the stock AHB cooler, but it has that funky hookup where it feeds into the fuel pump bolt then back of manifold. That special bolt on the fuel pump has trouble clearing alot of fuel pumps, and I thought now would also be a good time to get relocate the filter so I can stop dumping oil on my headers, and get some larger braided steel lines to run the whole system.

Thanks Scratchin! (I sent you an email). I know the car you pictured. He is using a Bigblock RB air cleaner. He was going to send me one but I haven't heard from him and think maybe he couldn't find it. He has a Holley Carb, and mine is a Quickfuel. Hopefully mine is no taller, but it gives me hope I will be able to run a stock Mopar air cleaner in the future. I may have to drive the car home with the hood popped.

I like the fact the fuel pump return line oils the t-chain. but can understand the clearance issues with lines/pumps/filters/headers.

getting down to the nitty gritty for you. you get a stroker and I get a 89 4-v 318 police engine/trans.

cant wait to ride over when the time comes, I am ready to go.

the quik fuel is like a holley and should not be any taller over all unless you have a spacer under it or something.

I may still try and make the factory AHB cooler work, because it all fits so well, but just don't know about the one bolt at the pump.

Yes, you get an '89 "S" code 318 4V that runs awesome too, with a very firm shifting police trans!

The best way to do it is to drill and tap the oil return line in the block for a NPT fitting. Then you can screw fittings directly into the block and run your AN lines to the filter. The oil filter adapters tend to leak over time. Sounds like your engine is already together and running so it is probably too late to tap the hole.

It is already all together and been thru "test and tune" on the dyno. Darn, thought I was going to use the factory oil cooler but then started thinking about relocating the filter, and mechanic mentioned some bigger lines to flow more oil would probably be smart for this much engine. I was hoping if I went with all braided lines and AN fittings I wouldn't have any leak issues for a long time. This is probably going to be the last thing I workout before install. Thank You.

does it have the 90* filter adaptor on it now or the flat plate for a straight filter?

if it has the 90* adaptor you will need a flat plate/nipple to use the sandwich type adaptor for remote filter lines.

the 90* adaptor is a big restriction as is. one oiling mod is to drill it out to 1/2 when doing the other engine oiling mods.

Larry, my Dad just did this without the cooler. I'll try and get pictures and and a list of what fittings Dad used this weekend.

Can't even remember now if it still has the 90 degree adapter. Too many cars!

Here is the way I plumbed the external filter on this 427 inch SB.

I used a set of Hamburger Performance adapters for a remote filter setup on my 1988 Diplomat, but it is plumbed into an oil accumulator.

AndyE I like that. But now I don't want to drill in this block since the engine is assembled and has been run. I wish I had thought of this before.

469Runner; I will definetly look into that setup you have. Looks HD. I like it.
