I want to get my heavy (3200lbs) street car to stop better. I'd like to get it to stop quicker at the track and panic stop on the street.

Forged Dynalite calipers (4 piston) street brake conversion up front and 10" drums in the back.

Stock pads are BP-10's.

Have you ever messed with different compounds? Some say track only.....why? My car is 95% street.

I think that I need better COLD stopping friction.

Thoughts?

I`m runnin the older 4-piston calipers which use the 150-8850K pads w/vented street rotors and they stop quite well although above 135 mph I do the double pump boogie..........

Switched from Wilwood pads on my Dynalites(front disc only on my E Body ) as car would felt almost as no front brakes.

Went to Hawk pads, car now stops but rally wheels are covered with brake dust within 15 miles of cleaning them.

Now considering ceramic pads but been told that stopping power will take me back to where I was with a Wilwood pads,,,but much cleaner.

Car is non power brake car but still with drum brake master cylinder. Have ordered up a 1972 disc brake, non power master to find if this will help. Smaller piston equals greater braking pressures,,,however testing of my braking pressure appears ok.

Car is street driven only 440 six pack.

Did you pull the residual pressure valve out of the master cylinder port that feeds the front disc brakes? If not do that and see if the dust gets a lot less The valve is capture by the brass seat in the master cylinder that the steel brake lines seat on, remove the line and use a #8 self tapping screw to screw into the brass seat and pull it out, remove the little rubber flapper residual pressure valve behind the seat and put the seat back in and tighten the steel nut up on the brake line as tight as you can get to make the seat reseal IHTHs

I am not certain if the valve had been removed. However I have spun the front wheels when off the ground and they both spin freely with very little apparent drag. I then assumed the valve has been removed. And with little drag felt that excessive drag was not the cause of dusting of wheels.

Perhaps that is incorrect thinking on my part. Do you have a thought on this?

I know I dont have the valve in mine and yes it still
gets the dust pretty quick.. softer pads get eatten
up quicker but stop better without the heat.. the
harder style pads need the heat but put out less dust..
I have to clean the front wheels on a regular basis..
this is on my street rod

I ordered Wilwood B compound pads and bedded them in properly. Thing stopped GREAT during bedding. After bedding them (just a few miles) I took them out to take a look. Good thing,.....they were falling apart. Chunks of material were missing.

I returned them for a full refund.

I ordered Hawk HPS pads. High Performance Street. We'll see how this goes. The description seems good. Low dust, low noise, better stopping, gentle on rotors,.......

We'll see.

Let us know...I'm going back on the street with Wilwoods on the front and I'm sure I will have to change to different pads.

I`ve had the old 2-piston calipers on my dart for over 10 years street/strip and just changed the pads for the first time a few months ago and they work fine for me.............
