Actually my brother does. 1999 Dodge Dakota, V6/auto. His disc breaks keep rattling, and the three prong clips that pop into the disc brake piston keep wearing on one or more of the prongs. He's changed them many times. He just put a new set in a few days ago (they rattled from the get-go). One thing I thought of was the fact that he didn't put the (factory) anti-rattle plates on any of the new pads. Also, the part of the mounting that the brake pads slide on has got wear groves in them from many pads sliding on them (I'm kind-a wondering if this isn't the problem). Anyone have any guesses? Here's a pic

I used IIRC CRC anti squeal spray at the shop. Its red and tacky. You should have seen some of the sliders I had to put brakes on.They all worked though.Just get them clean and use disc brakes lube on them and the moving parts.I get the anti squeal spray at Advanced but lots of parts stores have it.Ive used it for years.Rocky

repair the worn slides and install the anti rattle clips. Might also want to look at the caliper mounting pins and their bushings. The brake pads are moving around in the housings too much. Gene
We use a black looking paste called Disc Brake Quite, But if he doesn't fix the worn stuff first none of the disc brake products will help.
So let me get this straight. First, he MUST replace the pad slides (this is part of the front spindles isn't it?). Then, use this "brake quiet" stuff. What about new anti-rattle clips from Rockauto.com?

Not sure about the prongs wearing but does he have the outboard pad spring in place?

If I replaced every worn slide at work we would have done very few brakes.I mean some were really grooved.Customers dont want to hear they need pricey parts.Clean them up and lube well.Ive never had any problems in thousands of brake jobs,I think it 30 years I might have replaced maybe 2 or 3 slide assembleys.Rocky

After talking to me about some of the ideas put forth on here. He went back in and found out he had some things wrong. But after redoing what he thought was wrong, it still had the problem. But not as bad.

The clips usually do that because someone was over aggresive putting them in the disc puck or on cheap pads.I did a bunch at work and most had worn slides. They still worked.Lube the slides and use the anti rattle clips. Most times its crud on the slides and no lube or the pins arent lubed and sliding right.Rocky
