Chris Mcgaha is well on his way to becoming the Cleveland Browns of NHRA Pro Stock. If he really wants to know what is wrong with his program, he needs to take a long look in the mirror.

His learning curve will be very steep indeed. He bought what was the baddest P/S car on the planet and runs very little better than he did with a bottom tier Mopar program.

When that deal went down, I had a feeling this would be the result.

just because you can spend the money to aquire the best doesn't mean you can win with it, takes more than cubic dollars to make you a winner.jmo

As a Cowboys fan this statement could not be more true.
The unfortunate thing is, without the money as a backing, all the knowledge and experience don't mean a thing if you can't buy the equipment.

Just more proof that just because you have the fastest on the property you arent necessarily going to win races. It still takes a good driver and ability to set the car up correctly.

Makes me laugh. Edwards was no dummy and he had trouble finding the wally much last couple of years with usually the quicker car. The writing was on the wall then.
McGaha doesn't have that kind of experience or talent in my mind, and he is going to be better than Edwards! Time will tell. Beep

As much as i don't like shane tucker comepared to McGaha hes out smarting him with an old cobalt and engines from elite as of the last race .See who can go more rounds before the years out. Then we can guess at how much each spent to get past first round? But i'm sure those elite engines come with a lay down option!

finding the Wally? LOL
Even though he won a series-high six races (plus two additional runner-up finishes), qualified No. 1 for 15 of last season’s 24 races, finished fourth in the standings and is recovering nicely from offseason shoulder surgery, 2009 Pro Stock champ Mike Edwards is back home in Coweta, Okla., instead of on the west coast.

Edwards’ prolific career included two NHRA championships (one in Pro Stock, the other in Modified), 42 career wins (40 in Pro Stock, two in Modified), 56 No. 1 qualifying positions and 13 career top 10 season finishes.

He also holds the NHRA national elapsed time record in Pro Stock at 6.471 seconds.

From Chris McGaha on yellowbullet

Well I debated if I should comment about all this. They did a National Dragster release on Twitter main thing in the story was consistency. Is it fair to say that I haven't got the tree at times yup. But it works both ways and yes the car at times can leave a driver out to dry. Seems all people see is the light nothing else. At what point does the car cover me it never has. Every round I won, I won and the car won. In this game you can't expect to win everytime by the driver cutting a light the car has to cover the driver at times and sometimes win on a holeshot. Nobody has looked at the whole picture. Bought this operation with that in mind have a .06 light and a guy have a .03 and go .04 faster and still get a win now and then. If I can't have that should have stayed with my Dodge and kept trying to win a Wally off 4 holeshots.
Pomona we shook had the light on connelly
Phoenix I let the team down had a really bad light
Gainesville Guess you can call that a holeshot loss .005 faster than Vincent
Las Vegas I bubbled in the semis no complaint from me or team here it was a good weekend
Charlotte Shook tires in 2nd rd. should have won this but hey its racing
Houston Yup lost on a holeshot, but feel this is one of those car left high and dry cut .100 lights on the number 3 runs in a row and car didn't 60 ft all weekend driver and crew chief both lost that cause its a team
Atlanta lost in rd 2 had the light lost by .005
Topeka got beat in rd 1 not a great light and got out performed
Englishtown shook tires in rd 2 to anderson
Bristol got beat in rd 1 not a great light and got out performed
Epping lost on a holeshot
Now look at my qualifing postions for the year look at my K&N Horsepower Challenge points went from 1st to hope you guys vote me in, you can not win in this game from the bottom half and that isn't the drivers fault. Guess from hindsight it is easy to blame the driver. It's always the pro football teams field goal kicker who lets the team get beat when he misses the game winning field goal even though the rest of the team or coach didn't play the game good. As for the story above about Jim don't think its entirly true. First off Jim doesn't ride on the golf cart he always rides a moped with his wife.

Chris McGaha

I guess if it was easy everyone could do it. Interesting that is truly is a team sport in pro stock. You can buy the quickest car and still not do well without all the pieces to the puzzle.

Saw this morning he has hired Lump Self as his new crew chief. Crew chief is only good if you actually listen to him.

P/S is one of the toughest classes for sure. If you're not moving forward, you're done. The Gray cars are tough right now, as is Jeggie. McGaha is going to have to spend a ton more money to get back on top.

I hope you don't think I was knocking on Edwards. Just the opposite as I meant that if it was hard for him it was gonna be harder for MaGaha, or anyone else who would attempt the same type of thing. I am fully aware of Edwards accomplishments and rooted for him many times and find it hard to believe that anyone else could buy his team and run it any better right from the start. He (MaGaha) may have bought the pieces and majority of the team but it will still not happen overnight. Sorry for any confusion. Beep

That's a tough class… I don't think anybody really likes to watch people fail, but they would also not be that happy if somebody could simply "buy" their wins without some driving and engineering intelligence involved as well. It's not like the rest of the class is going to slow down to give the new guy a better shot at it. EVERYBODY wants to win, and they will all do their absolute best to make it happen for themselves.

There is no magic bullet.
