Stat only controls hot warm before it opens. Not the temp it runs at.A 180 should run at about 180 to 200.Most new cars run a 195 and run anywhere from 200 to 220.Thats watching actual temps with a scan tool.My 65 runs a 180 and stays around 180 to 190 on a hot day and runnign back to back at the track.Rocky

I try to keep my old street driven hotrods at or under 200 F when warmed up My 2006 CTD runs right at 200 F all the time unless pulling a big(24ft. enclosed) heavy(8600+lbs) trailer up a hill, it will get up to 230F then

I know this, but it does, in a way, control where the engine runs at also. Starts to open at 180*, but engine temp continues to rise a bit until stat is fully open then engine starts to cool back down. I would expect that anywhere from 185-190 would be normal. Just looking to see if this is the consensis of others.
