Im about to repaint the dash on my 73 cuda. Is there anybody that makes something in a spray can that is close to original? I tried semi gloss black and satin black but they both look too shiny.

I didn't take the time to read the attached link but whatever you do, Do NOT use any paint with any degree of gloss! DAMHIK!
I know there are threads you could do a search for on Moparts to find a good spray bomb paint to use on the dash.

Rustoleum makes a black textured paint that will get you extremly close,, otherwise it's mix and spray with a gun

which ever one you use spray it on wet and let it flow out

What's that Rustoleum stuff called? Can you post a pic of the can. The only "textured" stuff I can find is either "wrinkle" or "hammered" and neither of those is even close.

How about a pic so we can see if it looks like the original finish or not? Something up close showing the texture.

I've tried the Rustoleum paint also and I like it! Here's some pics of a test piece and my original ash tray next to it. The ash tray on my 71 has the texture molded into the plastic (in 1971) so I wanted to see how close the rest or the dash frame would be using this paint as a cheaper alternative. It looks very nice and matches the texture very close.

Last one for now. I know, hurry up and paint the dash frame. lol I haven't finished soda blasting it yet but I will post some pics when it's done. Hopefully it comes out good like the sample piece. Eddie

I'm guessing if the dash was painted and the ashtray molded plastic, that the latch wouldn't have been perfect anyway.

I'm thinking of having my dash dipped but I'm wondering what the vin plate is made of and coated with. Don't want it damaged in the process but don't want to unnecessarily shell out for new rivets either.

I ground off my rivets from the underside of the dash and save the heads and removed the vin. My dash was sand blaster and powder coated. The rivets were then epoxied from underneath.

The only issue I see here is that this is "cheap" paint being applied to one of the most difficult pieces to remove and redo if it gets damaged in any way. If there is one place on the car you want to use a high quality, durable paint, the dash is it. I'm sitting on the fence here!

I used the Rustoleum textured paint on my steering column with really good results. However, I couldn't get a consistent finish that pleased me on my dash frame. I ended up having it blasted and getting it powder coated at a very reasonable price.
