After a long time I am getting my 64 440 ready to run again. When climbing in, over the roll cage and under that giant stock steering wheel I barely fit through. Now I used to fit in there just fine, years ago. How could this have happened? The car looks like it is the same size and has not shrunk. So how on earth did the distance between the steering wheel and roll cage shrink? It is puzzling. I had better have some pizza and beer and try to figure out how that space got smaller on its own.

Anyway I guess I need a smaller steering wheel. Any one have any recommendations? Pics of aftermarket steering wheels in early b bodies would be cool as well.

Thank you all for assistance in these things.

we all have that same problem. I just lowered the door bars on my outlaw car as I'm not as flexible.....just make the steering wheel removable

The stock wheel has about a 4" dish and I plan on changing that to one a little flatter.......and smaller in diameter.
And I am losing weight too.

No dvw my 64 did not come with the optional master fabricator owner. It is a very rare but highly sought after option.

Fatter? Me? Are you trying to wreck my self esteem? Now you have done it. You hurt my feelings. Where is the ice cream? That will make me fatter
..ummmm better.

Seems my wheel is closer in the 65 also.Might be the power race seat I put in.I know its not me as I weigh the same as when I bought it in 69.I went to a flat spoke wheel. My knees are close but a lot more room that if it had the OE wheel.Rocky

If I move the wheel any farther away in the Daytona it makes my arms too short.

My steering wheel distance is fine, but I had to lower the seat for helmet clearance! Do you guys think I ordered too big of a helmet by chance?

Since helmet size is detetmined by head size it is just as likely you ordered too big a head.

Yeah I noticed after loading the car in the trailer whenever I crawl under the back to tie it down I usually have to take a nap while under there

I just pulled this thread up looking for info on putting an aftermarket wheel in my Savoy. The factory wheel is cracked and the center horn button finally cracked and fell off. I was looking at grant wheels and there's a few choices that I'm looking into.I was thinking of the classic 3 spoke with the black rubber wheel. The wooden wheel looks good on the classic 3 spoke frame as well
