Hey guys,

So I got my smallblock with the 360-2 Indy heads and TTI headers into my Scamp this past weekend. I had no choice but to route the shifter cable in between two of the header pipes (number 5 and number 7, number 7 is slip fit and there is quite a bit of room). After routing the cable there however, I have an issue with the cable sitting on one of the headers. I am using a 904 transmission. I am wondering how others are avoiding burning up shifter cables?

I was thinking of putting a hose clamp around #5 pipe and rigging up some sort of bracket to keep the cable away from the headers, but thought I would ask here first to see what others have done.

If you have pictures of how you solved this, that would be awesome!

Thanks guys!
Matthew

what length shifter cable are you using...

usually a 4 ft cable will fit without any header problems...the 5 ft cable causes problems.

I put heat wrap around tube no. 7...and heat wrap around the shifter cable.

If I am not mistaken it is a 5ft cable. It came with my Hurst pro stick when I bought it. I still don't understand why they don't make them rear exit instead of front, but thats a whole other deal.

With a 4ft cable there are no issues at all? The cable just stays in between the two tubes with lots of room around it?

I would try the 4' one but dont get the heavy duty...
they dont like to make tighter loops

I ran mine over the top of the trans to the passenger side and loops down between the motor and trans on the bottom side. Slid some transmission rubber line over the cable (on top side that lays on top of trans) for extra protection. No tight bends and nothing remotly close to the cable. If you want I will climb under the car tonight and get a picture of it.

I'd rather use what I have already IF I can make it work. But obviously if there is no other solution then the 4ft it is....Although I think the 4ft cable would end being too short from what I remember looking under the car at this whole setup

A picture would be great if you could.

We've got two small block cars, one with TTI's and one with SuperComp's. Seems like we tried everything but still ended up replacing cables every now and then. Built another car with a rear entry shifter. PPP or B&M Bandit series, makes no difference, I'll never use another front entry shifter.

I usually run a 4' cable. I have a brand new 5' B&M race cable sitting here that came with my shifter, I'm probably gonna sell it and put that money towards a 4' cable. The 5' tends to run up near the starter and header.

Cant figure out how to get a good shot of how I ran it, so hopefully this will help a little.

I had to slip some large braided hose over mine because it ran close to the headers and would burn, haven't had a problem yet,

I'll try the braided hose thing first...that might work.

There is no way I could run the cable as pictured, it would kink for sure and not shift well.

Thanks for the help so far guys! I appreciate it!
