Can anyone tell me if the alternator brackets for a slant 6 are unique to that motor or are they the same as on a small block? Also are the alternators different? My brother in law bought Duster with a 318 in it but was originally a Slant 6 car. Alternator crapped out and he bought a new one for a 318 and the alignment is off by about an inch now. Just wondering if the brackets and/or alternator/spacers that were on it were from the slant 6 and rigged up to work?

all the slants ive seen use a straight bracket with a long notch cut into it ---the small block ones ive seen are curved at the bottom and attach there id say definetly different and rigged probably

Slant 6 and small block use completely different methods to hold alternator. Here is a slant 6 bracket. It is cast iron (possibly steel) and bolts to the side of the block.
The small block mounts to the head, at the back of the alternator, with spacers and has a flat steel plate which holds the front.

No way to interchange either.

This picture has instructions to the machinist to adapt bracket to hold a newer style Denso alternator.

The bracket is unique to slant 6s.

6 and SB used the same alternators within years, possibly different amperage ratings. The cases were the same dimensionally.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was needing to see! I am going over there tomorrow to check it out and see if we can figure it out. He was acting like even the space between the ears was off. And unfortunately he gave them the old one as a core. He was gonna run by tonight and see if he could maybe get it back so we have something to compare it to.
