OK, New motor makes peak torque @ 5300 and peak hp @ 6400 There is enough HP to go 150mph+.
I'm figuring a 4:10 rear is too much since we go 7000 @ 142mph.
It's a Dana 60 and the next gear down is a 3.73, would you use stock 727 g'box ratio's or a low gear set with a 30.5 inch dia tyre (including growth)?
I've just broke the diff and probably damaged the box too so both will likely need rebuilding
TIA.

"we go 7000 @ 142mph. "

TIG that sounds like a lot of RPM for 142 MPH with 4;10's. We turn 7000 at about 152 MPH with 4;10's.

"I've just broke the diff " Wow must be a lot of power with new motor

Mike

What size tyre? This is with the 572 motor, 655 isn't in yet.

"What size tyre?"

Tig we run the 31.0/14.0/15 Goodyear. Not that far off from your 30.5 tire! I could be wrong but it seems like you could have a bit too much slippage in your converter Just this past Friday night we went thru the traps with the shift light just blinking(set for 7000 rpm) at 154.03 MPH. Dana 4;10's .
I tried the low gear set once with this combination but it did not help with 60 fts. at all. Car still will go 1.31 with stock set
Mike
p.s. Could you elaborate on breaking the Dana

I just switched to a low gear set in my 484 Hemi with a 727 in my Cuda because I drive it on the street. I had 4.56's with my 31" tire and it went a 10.84 with more in it, but the 4.56's on the street sucked...

I went back to 4.10's and switched to a low gear set in the 727 because I had it. I haven't had it to the track yet, but its my cheapest option for the best of both worlds. And its better on the street this way....I had been told for years that if you have too much hp, its no good, but I decided to try it...

Tyre is designated 29.5 x 10.5, I included growth.
We broke teeth off the crownwheel, looks like a few had been cracked for a while . I'll post some pic's up soon.
I figured we'd gain some torque multiplication back with the low gear set, but was wondering how they'd hold up. Motor made 950ft/lb peak btw and calculated more with a 2.74 and 3.73 than a 2.45 and 4.10's.
