Charlie, I think it is great what you guys are doing for the Hemi cars. This type of repore is great for the sport and fans. Although Wild Bill is not racing this year hopefully we will be there in support of the Hemi cars.

Got word from Brian Hard that he will put $2000.00 in the pot!

As far as dates, this is for the Martin Mi event. There will be another event at norwalk in september. Someone from that area may decide to handle that one. The dutch will be handled by Lex Dudas I think. He is a good promoter, and will probably get some good prize money rounded up.

Gary Moore broke his Jesel Timing cover on his SS/AH car at the IHRA event here in Dallas today. It looks like the plate was machined or designed to be too thin in the area where it broke out at the cam. Attached is a picture of the cover on the engine.

Here is a picture of the part that broke out. The material appears to be maybe .010-.020" thick where it broke out. Anyone else have this problem? I was thinking of getting one for the new World block, but I may wait and use the old gear drive until they fix this.

I would be curious why they are breaking. There is no load on that part. If there is than your cam is going downhill in the block. I wouldnt say there is a problem until it happens to someone else. I am trying to figure out from that picture what kind of block that is, we have to machine the iron boss around the cam to clear the cover, even on the older blocks. That one has no boss. Its irrelevant, I am just looking for clues. I would say that Gary seems to have a run of bad luck, he handed me a coffe can full of broken valvetrain parts at vegas, and said the valve was bad. I looked at it, the spring was broke, and by the looks of the stem it had been broken for a while. No valve will live under those conditions. These cars are not wind up toys, you have to A)look at everything, and B) know what you are looking for, which most dont.

I saw one that broke same way. After checking I found the cam gear drive, was bent. took it to Jesel and they confirmed.

I didn't put it together or run it only saw the parts after.

If cam thrust was right, there shouldn't be THAT much pressure there.

How much thrust does the oil pump drive put on the cam? Being mostly a small block guy, does it drive the cam forward or toward the back of the block? It still looked like the material was thinner than I would want. I can't say anything about Gary's engine, but he was racing Hemi's back in the early 1970s, so I would expect he would know his way around them.

the cam thrust pushes backwards. That cover could probably stand to be thicker, but I am just saying that if it has happened twice, and it has never happened to anyone I know, and I am on SN 019 for SS/AH motors right now, and have had a belt on every one, that it is probably not an issue.

...I think new anyway. But a nice looking car.

Charlie, you're mentioned as "tuning assistance from". Who's bullet??

Shall we expect 8.40's @ 150?

that is an old mccallum motor that went from cake, to bales, to crosswhite, to kraft. I sold him an oil system, and some carbs. He seems like a pretty nice guy from what I have dealt with him.
