I'm getting ready to take my 71 Challenger to the paint shop and I need to know about the front clips for the revel molding. The back studs are all intact and the couple of places that don't have studs have a hole located in the proper spot. The front studs are in good shape but it looks like the body man did some repair on the A pillar. I can't tell if he welded up some holes or ground off the studs. The place in question is the top of the a pillar on both sides. Are the top two revel clips supposed to be on studs or screwed in on a 71? I can't find a picture on R/T specialties site to see how many of each type is required.

Back in the day i used to install glass for a living and dont remember any of the clips needing screwed in on ebodys . Sounds like someone may have removed the studs for whatever reason . If the holes are in the correct location you can screw the clips to the body , just be assured the height of the clip is correct so it can catch the moulding . If you want it correct , the holes will need welded/grounded and then re-studed with a stud gun . Hope this helps

Mike

Well, I know for a fact that all 70 models have holes in the front and rear for a clip with a screw. I have a 70 Challenger and 4 or 5 70 Barracudas at the shop. This is a late 71 Challenger and it was a pretty rust free car. The back has all the studs intact. It has the two holes at the bottom for the metal spacer to keep the window from sliding down after installation. It also has two holes that appear to be factory in the middle of the left and right side. I guess they used a couple of screwed clips there. I did look at a friends 71 Challenger yesterday and it had some studs where mine where missing and some screwed clips in places mine had studs. I sure body shops over the years did not worry about replacing the studs and just screwed clips in place where the studs were rusted off. Of coarse my car has had a little welding and rust repair before I got it in a primed condition. I did find a paint supply store that said they could order me the studs I want that pop rivet into place instead of welding them in place with a stud gun. It has been years since I have seen any of those.

There wasn't any holes on my 71 challenger.

Best pictures I have.

Stud gun tip modified to get them where they need to go.

Thanks, Gary. I figured you knew. I don't have access to a stud gun like that. I have found some alum pop rivet stud replacements and the local auto body supply place says they can get some steel or brass pop rivet ones. I also found some screw in studs that I can use. May talk to one more body shop here in town.

I had the same issue with my 71 Cuda. Over the years the post were broken off. We used the clips for a 70 that screwed in without any issues, just be careful of clip placement in the corners and where the pieces of trim meet. To be safe make sure to get the screws that have the sealer on the threads to prevent future rust.
