When did Chrysler stop using screws to secure the plastic cowl screens on E and B bodies? I have a 1971 Charger and it has the small square cutouts around the perimeter of the access hole so a snap in type cowl screen will work, but I was told that 71's used the screw in type screens. Did Chrysler stop during the production year and change over to snap in type screens, was 70 the only year for the screws to be used, or was the square holes punched into the cowl and just not used?

From what I recall for E-Bodies, 1970 had Phillips head screws, 1971 had 1/4" head hex screws, 1972 and later had the screens with the plastic tabs that pushed into square holes in the cowl. As the screens and the cowl needed to change at the same time I believe this was a model year change, whereas the screw head type could have been a running change.

71 charger, 8-70 and 6-71 build dates. Both have screws and they are Phillips head but not threaded all the way. They are threaded about 3/4 of the way and then a shank so they bottom out and are not over tightened. I have seen them available but not sure where, I think it was RT Specialties.
