I have a NOS 440 Six Pack cam and a set of NOS Six Pack lifters, which I bought in 1977 for my Roadrunner. I am finally getting to restoring the car, and I am going to use the cam. I considered selling it but, since I need a cam for the car anyway, and a resto is in the $350 range, I doubt I'd get enough for it to make it worthwhile. It isn't very interesting, to me, to keep as a curio, so in it goes; where it belongs.
The cam is a p/n 3512903, which is the '71 part number, different from the '70 part number.
Anyone know why the different part number between 70 and 71? The grinds should be the same.

Sorry for the lag; had to find the time to dig through storage bins for lifters.
The lifters are part number 3420039, which is the correct number for std size lifter for a 1970 440-6. Ah, the good old days, when you could get lifters from the factory in .001, .008, and .030 oversize.
Yes, they are in the original boxes.
This is also the same number for 1971, so they will work on the cam.
I'm still curious. Does anyone know what the difference is, if there is one, between the 70 and 71 six pack cams. Usually don't see a changed part number without a changed part.

you know, it's a funny thing, but i would be tempted to keep it for nostalgia's sake, for this reason: as many flat tappet cams that go bad today, it would be a bummer to have it wipe a lobe (or 6) and end up with an NOS paperweight. but if it has no sentiment, and you don't mind taking that chance, just do as we all do, the best you can on breakin, and go from there!
