I'm about to finish installing my front-disk conversion on my '69 Charger using '77 Diplomat disk assemblies. Currently I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the preload on the disk rotors. The FSM isn't much help in describing how to do that (it seems to be describing how to set up to check rotor runout) - but then again it's assuming I have K-H/Bendix disks so it may not apply to my situation anyway....

How can I set the preload? I've got a dial indicator if it turns out the manual is the best way - otherwise how could I do this with my setup?

Thanks once again-
David

While turning rotor in its forward direction slowly tighten spindle nut to 20 ft/lbs.
Back off nut 1/4 turn.
While turning rotor again tighten nut finger tight. No wrench.

Hello Dave, it's been along time. Yes torque it while spinning to seat the bearings/new grease then back it off then tighten it again my hand till the in/out play of the rotor on the spindle is just reduced to zero. Clock the castellated tin piece wherever it needs to be so the cotter pin will slip in

If I use new seals and bearings I like to get mine tight first.I use channel locks and tighten down the nut. Then I back off and spin and just get it snug.Line up the cover and install the cotter pin.Ive been doing it for 40 years and never lost a bearing at home or work. You get a feel for doing it after you do it a few times.Rocky
