Is it necessary to use gaskets with the regular tin valley pan? Should I use just one or 2?
Thanks Mike

People have went both ways & have had success (& failures) either way with or without and 1 or 2. A guy on here "superperformance) iirc sells thin .015" paper gaskets which are my choice (on both sides) with Permatex "high tack" the red stuff in the spray can to glue em on, #99MA and Permatex #1 in the toothpaste like tube around the 8 port openings on the pan on both sides to seal the ports. A thin wide even swath. First mockup the pan/intake dry & check the height of the bolt holes as with OE deck height variation/head/deck milling/many thickness available for head gaskets you could be anywhere regarding that fitment. The felpro paper gaskets are .030" iirc maybe thicker

I've always used the thin .015" gaskets.....especially with the aluminum intakes. I usually just glue them on the manifold side of the tray and use some sealer on the head side around the port openings. NEVER had any issues with vacuum leaks.
Superformance makes them now. The Mopar number was 3514186.

Since the 60s Ive never used papers.Never a problem. My 440 now has aluminum intake and heads. The sons 413 has iron and aluminum same thing.Back in the day the tins were even reused as they were pricey.I remember buying one in 67 and it was over 20 bucks.Lots of $$$ back then for a gasket.Rocky

It is not "necessary" to use any gasket facing pieces with the stamped valley pan.
My thought is these are mainly used as a "shim" if you will, to properly align and fill a gap between the intake ports in the head with the ports on the manifold depending on how much material that may have been removed from block decking or cylinder head milling.
They can however provide additional sealing characteristics due to the material composition.

Superformance Products now offers these gaskets made from Interface Solutions NI-2085 material, better than anything available on the market for this application part #6404.

John originally we were making them from Interface N-8094 and have recently upgraded the material to Interface NI-2085 for better long term durability.

The N-8094 is a gray fiber material, kind of standard middle of the road. The NI-2085 is a charcoal/black material and is very flexible.
The gasket is also marked with those numbers.
