I bought my granddaughter a 1970 Dart for her first car this weekend. I has what appears to be an aftermarket front sway bar on it. My question is did 1970 Darts have a front sway bar? I would love to be able to throw this thing away because the bushings and brackets are old/worn out/rattling. Thanks.

I know some years of A bodies got a factory sway bar. If yours has the vertical end links that connect to welded tabs on the LCA's then that would further confirm that possibility as some aftermarket ones use their L tabs to bolt on the LCA. To ans your Q yes just toss it if desired. The possible slight increase in leaning when she makes a turn will not bother her near as much as the rattling. EDIT & with the bushings being that shot/worn out you probably ain't recieving much lean control anyway

Why not just replace the bushings? They are available at most parts stores for cheap.

Yes they had them , replace the bushings, anything to help keep the front end from leaning is a good thing especially if it's for a new driver or someone not used to driving these old cars.

This seems to be a case where the intended driver is one with limited experience. If this were a dedicated drag car I'd say the sway bar isn't that important. Since the driver is a young woman learning to drive, I'd do everything I could to make the car easier to control. Sway bars front and rear, wider tires for better grip, front disc brakes and a long winded tutorial about dealing with old cars!
I hate the thought of a daughter of mine losing control of a car that I bought for her. No room for short cuts here.
