If it's on the tires the shocks are already compressed to a point. I don't know anybody that ties their cars down so tight that the shocks are bottomed out.

When storing your car in/on your trailers do you guys leave them tied down? Or do uall release the tie-downs to release the pressure on the shocks my thinking bout the shocks being compress like that will not be a good thing...........Thax.
I tie down the front K and the rear axle and let the suspension on the car being towed do it's thing. That way the straps are much less likely to come loose. So no it don't matter if the car is tied down as far as the shocks go. If you tie down the suspension then the trailer takes more of a beating and so does the car.IMO

I never keep it strapped down and I use to jack it up and put it on stands in the trailer... just to let the springs hang

If the suspension is working while its in or on the trailer its pretty much the same as driving it down the road. There is really no good way to tie the body down without having something under the car for it to set against(like a bladder that they use with dragsters).

I guess I'm the lazy one here.. when I drop off the trailer after a long day racing.. I dont even open the door to it, unless I have to.. That means I leave it all strapped down until I need to pull the car out next time..
Also, as a side note.. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere... I think it was the instructions for the Strange Strut set.. They recommend strapping the body down and not the chassis, as they dont want the suspension working while in travel..
In the trailer the suspension is working harder going down the highway than it is on the track... I use to put a air bag/bladder under the car in the trailer before I strapped it down(you dont want to pull the car down to bottom out the shocks/struts) but you dont want the suspension getting a major work out in the trailer... I got a hole in the air bag but I never replaced it and it did wear out the seals in my struts(along with the wheel stands)... the bag really helped a lot... also if I was going racing the next weekend I didnt bother to free up the straps but if more than a week I did pop the straps free but left them hooked up

When you guys leave the car in the trailer all the time do you take the weight off the trailer axles or just let the trailer springs sit with the load on them?

It is far better to tie the car down by the frames so the suspension parts don't get wore out going to and from the races Let the trailer suspension do the work I make sure and inflate the rear slicks to 15 to 20 lbs before loading it for the trip to and back from the races

That's it the small amount of compression that's on the shocks that's being held by the tie-downs is what I'm concern with, don't really know of anyone that ties a racecar down to fully compress a shock

I've known guys that did... they had bad angles where the tie down points were on the trailer(almost straight down)and they would pull the car down till it wouldnt move... when I showed them to move the mount points out farther that it would hold the car better fore and aft they moved them.. a lot of guys with short trailers tend to do this

Storing (static) the shocks with slight compression is far less of a concern then towing with the suspension in constant motion. Static compressed height causes no wear. When traveling down the road (in the trailer) or track, the shocks/springs are in motion. This motion causes heat from friction and spring torsional stresses (spring compression) that is where the "damage" happens to a shock/spring,next time you get to where you are towing your car reach under and touch the shocks - doesnt matter what type of trailer suspension you have, you'll have heat. The spring should not take a set while sitting, again heat is the culprit(no heat generation while sitting still). If they are, get new springs and possibily a new manufacturer. Every spring has only so many heat cycles in it, so the more often you race it and miles you tow it the more frequently you will have to replace the springs.
