I have had 2 red top Optima's in the rear of my race truck for a few years now with no problems. They sit through the winter but still start my truck in the spring.

The Optima in my Dodge truck is 10 years old and used to power the race car when I didn't use a alternator.

I've heard the new ones aren't as good? I've read that there are some issues with quality. Maybe someone can chime in (haven't bought one lately).

But my old red top Optima (over 10 years old now) is still going strong.

I have them in everything reds and yellows no problems to get 5-6 years. Like we covered in another post, if you need to charge it MAKE sure you use a smart AGM charger or you will kill the battery and your charger

Im in the camp that they arent as good as they used to be, used to swear by them, then a couple of my old ones gave up on me, no complaints on those, but the new ones I bought were nothing but problems. Know they were bougyht out I believe by Johnson Controls, my experience with them hasnt been nearly as good in the last 4 or 5 years. Seems to me quality isnt as good.

From everything I've seen and heard, Sears Platinum DieHards are relabeled Odyssey batteries! I've had one in my race car for a couple of years so far with no issues.

the one in my truck is over 7 years old and I have completely drained the batteries probably 30 times ( dummy leaving the lights on) and charge it up and fires every time. I drive the truck maybe once a month and every time I get in it fires right up. Have two brand new ones one for the new car and one for the truck or my little blazer I drive every day.

Back in the swing of things at Painless again! Great to be back!

While you could have had one bad one in that bunch I am very sure you have another problem. I manage a battery distributorship and while I do see bad optimas most of them are just improperly charged.

If your getting them at auto parts stores and they are just swapping them out for you when you say they are bad you really don't know. If your taking them to a battery specialists and they are saying they are bad then thats a different story.

I have a question for you guys...in a drag race only application....red tops or yellow tops?

I've seen a couple NHRA Stockers with the D51 yellow-tops, but they use 2 of them. I only use 1 battery with an alternator at the moment.

I just replaced my Walmart Maxx EverStart with a new one yesterday. I ran it for 5 years and they still gave me $39.00 credit on the new one. I am not sure there was anything wrong with the old one, I battery was dead when I got ready to leave T&T last Thursday so I thought I would go ahead and get a new one. I think my stock alternator just wiil not get the job done since I upgraded to a electric fuel pump.

I've one of these in my 71 Vette. Purchased in 1975. Likely on 7th or 8th replacement by now. Firestone and Penny's try to make it difficult,,,,,,make certain all paperwork is in order but always submit.

For anybody racing and running fans etc the yellow top will be the way to go, alternator or not.
