Okay guys need some help on choosing new mufflers for the Dart. Right now I have thrush welded on it and its too loud, mainly because of the harassment of the police in my neighborhood. Its a 416 with 3in exhaust. Well I was wondering what muffler would you recommend that flows good but at the same time isn't really loud? Thanks guys

Where are the muffs mounted and where does the exhaust exit from, under the car , at the sides or at the rear?

i fell short of the noise test at our track & my 3" pipes were pointing directly out the back, so i fitted turn downs on the end of the pipes & instantly i passed the test. dissipating the sound is what you need to do, i could have gone sideways as well but i'm cheap.

The mufflers end at the rear end with turn downs. The police told me that any aftermarket muffler is illegal. He was a real dick.

He must be and he is wrong. Next time ask him to see that "muffler law" in writing. Must be nothing better to do in town. Get a set of tail pipes and you'll be much happier. Honestly I don't know how people drive cars w/ turn downs for any extended period of time.

I run some Dynomax Magnaflow mufflers and like them. They are much less loud than my flowmaster 2 chambers were, and the car picked up 1mph right off and more has come since then.

My 11:1 360 is loud but its nothing I have ever been in trouble for. 3" exhaust into 2.5" tail pipes.

2 different mufflers I ran and loved were MagnaFlow race mufflers and Pypes Race-pro mufflers. Both sounded nice on the street and didn't slow down a 9 second car at all vs open headers. Both had stainless packing also.

The first thing is the diameter of the pipe. At 3 inches, it is closer to a bull horn. If you do not what to replace it with a 2-1/2 pipe, then the next thing to do (small pipe or not) is run the exhaust pipe over the axle to the bumper.

The next move, though it sounds crazy, is to install a glass pack or resignator at the bumper for a few more decibel drop.

Remember that you can also install electric cut outs at the muffler and be quite at a flick of the switch. A little pricey? Yes. Peace of mind and hassle, priceless.

Just food for thought.

That is what I'd do. Also, I would fight the ticket if you get one. Funny, the Harley guys don't get trouble around here, they are loud, and sound bad too.

Don't all the police, lawyers, politicians and Judges ride Harleys up there They do down here I hate them loud, slow, unreliable rascals OP, run the pipes out to the rear bumper or have them exit behind the rear wheels, that should get the police off of your case

I put a 2.5" system together with a Jegs X-pipe and a pair of Pypes Violators. I think it sounds great. I don't have 3", so it may be irrelevant. I am running turn downs at the moment. I'll put a full exhaust on it later.

In run a compleat TTi system. Step headers, 3" with X pipe. At first I had the Dynomax Turbo mufflers, sound was a little to quiet. Changed mufflers to Dynomax Ultra Flows and I really like to noize it makes with them, not to much, just right...

Yeah, that's about right.

One thing on the dynomax ultra flows, I have run them on the Aspen for 10 years now, dual 3" with turn downs. I like the sound of them. I also run one 3" ultra flow on my pick up truck with a 3" tail pipe out the back. They sound great on everything they go on IMO. HOWEVER, the insides do break down fairly quick, and they blow the packing out of them, and become louder. You will know when it has happened, if you go under the car, and tap the muffler, and it sounds like a hollow flow master . after a bit longer, the cases bust open along where it says "dynomax". The one's on my car sound like rattling paint cans at the moment. The mufflers are life time warranty though....

I like to run the muffs as far back as possible to
quiet the exhaust... the farther back the the cooler
the exhaust is(in volume, size) and is easier to control
the note... I run the Dynomax turbo on the Rampage..
the H or X pipe does help by dumping the pressure
pulse to the other side to smooth out the exhaust note...
on the Rampage its 3.5" collectors then 3"all the
way to the back bumper
EDIT
In general the larger the body of the muffs the quieter
they are(more area to do the job)
