Once the pinion angle is set, re-check the side to side measurements, and tack weld the perches on. Weld half of each side of each perch, and then go to the other perch so that you will not concentrate too much heat in one area at one time and warp the housing. Wet rags wrapped around the tubes helps. http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/rearsusp/6.html

I put an 8 3/4 in my 83 cordoba and that is what we did. Actually, DusterDave really did it for me and he used an angle finder to get the coreect pinion angle. Once that was set, the new perches were welded on and I was good to go! TBF

Another good heat sink, besides wet towels, is wet newspaper. It will stick to the tubes as an added bonus.

Weld 1" on then go to the other side . Back & forth. Let them cool a couple of times in between while you have a beer.
