My brother wants a 69 Charger and has asked me to help him find one. He wants a nice driver he can make into his own not a #'s matching investment piece. I have found many more 70 Chargers available and want to know what is needed to convert a 70 into a 69?

A 70 is a 70. You cannot legally make it any other year model than the one it was originally.
To make a 70 look like a 1969 model, the exterior changes are mainly limited to the front end.
Fenders, bumper, grille, valance and hood. To buy all 1969 era parts will likely cost $4000 or more.

A decent grille alone will set you back fifteen bills. After that you have to change the headlamp switch and plumb vacuum lines to the canisters. You'll have to stitch 69 marker lights into the quarters and stitch the 70 holes shut. The good release will need to be swapped out. Your best bet is to find someone cloning a Daytona to trade you the 70 nose for the 69.

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they are not out to get you. WANT TO BUY- Looking for a CD by 'The Sub-Mersians' entitled "Raw Love Songs From my Garage To Your Bedroom". Also, any of the various surf-revival compilation albums this band has contributed to.

too much $$ to convert. I wasn't a 70 fan but they grow on you. The entire fornt clip needs to be swaped out and the int is completely different. In 70 they started using plastic instead of padded vinyl. Also as mentioned the steering column is different, the light switch is different, you have to run a ton of vacuum lines for the 69. Oh and you need the rear valance panel trim that will require drilling new holes and filling the old. ALSO 70 you could get an XH car, no padded door uppers. But the one cool thing you could get in 70 and not 69 was a 6-pack.

He's better off building a 70, more refined and better looking/optioned than a 68/9, esp if stock appearing is his goal

Just change the front clip. The side marker lights are only slightly different. The 70 rear of a 500 looks just like the 69'once you swap the slightly different lights.

Interior is the bigger difference high back buckets came in 70 as did the pistol grip

If I did it I'd use the 69 clip and put in the 68 grille but I actually like the 70 over the 69 but the 69 R/t tail, treatment was the coolest of the 3 years IMHO

Personally I think the 1970 Charger was the best of the 68-70 series
Nicer grille and bumper. Razor edge hood with bigger scallops, nicer indicators, nicer side markers. Pistol Grip shifters, high back bucket seats with far nicer upholstery, Tuff wheel available,15" Rallye wheels, R/T door scoops, 440 Six Pack available, high impact colors like Plum Crazy, Sublime Green and Panther Pink, electric headlight doors that actually work, locking column, and the taillight panel and blacked out lenses in 70 give it a full width appearance.....
Not knocking the 69 but the divided grille never appealed to me.
To me the 70 got it all right.

When I bought mine I actually did intend to swap a 69 front clip on it. The 70 styling just grew on me. Now I prefer the 70 styling over the 69 by a longshot. The 68 is a close second though.

I have had all 3 I like 70, 68, 69 in that order but in the car I prefer the 70, the 68-69 seats to me are a bit " old car" feeling.

The 70 also carries the loop bumper theme through the 70-74 "petty era cars"

But I love them all though, more than any other body design...ever. Pretty high praise
