It appears that I will be removing my brand new bearings from my axles.
I would like to reuse the new bearings on a different axle. Does anyone have any tricks to do this without tearing up the bearings, retainer rings, etc?

GOOOOOD LUCK!! retainer ring is vertually impossible to reuse. Bearings may be able to be salvaged with alot of care.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

You have a shot. I am assuming you have the use of a quality press.

Put a bearing splitter under the bearing race and set it up in the press. Heat the ring and keep it warm while you press the bearing assembly and ring as one. Don't go crazy with the torch, just warm it up. There is stll a chance it won't come so easily and you have to chisel it off, but I suppose it is worth a try. What's the worst that can happen?? You have to buy a new set of bearings

Thanks guys, after talking with Dr. Diff, and seeing the reactions here, I am just going to get new bearings for my new aftermarket axles and sell the redrilled 10x1.75 setup later with those bearings intact.

Thanks!

that would be the best thing to do IMO

that would only need the buyer to have the drums done and have a complet working A-body 10 x 1 3/4 brake set up with the 4.5 wbp

Yeah, that should work, I've just got it in my head that I want(and already bought all) the 10x2" stuff.

I don't know how on earth you would do this.

First, unless you have pullers/ devices/ hardware I've never seen, you will be pulling against the outer race, which will damage the balls/ races from the pressure

Also, if you gee this up in a typical press, you'll have to press against the "long" end of the axle--and thats a very good way to bend an axle.

Dr. Diff stated that there is a tool for it. Finding such tool would likely be painful! I'm just going to leave them on and order new bearings with the Dr. Diff axles.

Thanks guys!

I've done it with a bearing popper, back bar. port-a-power and two long, strong legnths of threaded rod. If you dont already have the gear maybe a machine shop could do it for you.
