87 Dakota had a 3.9 carb, switching to a 96 5.2. (converting to carb) its a 904 Lockup transmission. can I reuse the torque converter? and which flexplate should I use? from everything I figure out. the 3.9 should be the same as a 5.2?? any ideas?

Everything I've read tells me the 5.2 should bolt up to the 3.9 trans. Don't think the flex plate matters either. Not sure how the 3.9 trans will hold up to the 5.2 under hard thrashing, but would probably work under normal driving (whatever that means ) Gene

you may need a 96 5.2 flex plate and 96 5.2 TC in the 89 trans

the 89 is pre-magnum and 96 is magnum both N balance but may have slight difference in balance between Pre-mag LA and magnum engines.

but the bellhousing bolts right up from V6 to small block LA/magnum v-8

I have a 88 v-6 flywheel on my 91 5.2 NV4500 both were pre-mag engines though.

you may need the 5.2 flexplate/TC if you need a crank sensor?

Neutral balance is neutral balance, no difference between LA and 5.2Mag as far as that goes.
