Before I spend the $$. I thought I'd get some input first. I run a 408 with 540hp 540tq and a 904/999 trans behind it. It was rebuilt back in 2004 and has worked great but I want to freshen it up and thought of adding a TCS billet drum http://www.tcsproducts.com/products/product/655/
and rebuild kit http://www.tcsproducts.com/products/product/102/
I've been told the stock drum is good enough but thought this was a good piece to replace it with. Your thoughts please.

I left the stock 1 in mine. I talked to 2 top tq builder's & they both told me they never heard of 1 exploding. That's up to u, maybe use the $$ for something else. Just sayin.

The only reason I'd go with a new drum is either to add more frictions or take weight out of it (Aluminium Drum). The piston upgrade that comes with some of the aftermarket drums looks like a good investment in a race application though.

904 drum has a lot less mass than a 727 drum. I have the stock drum in mine, but I don't have enough horsepower to blow one up either.

If you have a true 999 then it already has 5 frictions in it anyway. The drum diameter is so much smaller then the 727, in my opinion it isn't a huge weight/et improvement per dollar like the 727 is.

I wouldn't bother.

No matter how many people I ask, or talk to... I have still yet to hear confirmation of a 904 drum coming apart.

Thanks for the replies guys. This is what I've heard at the speed shop that the 904 is a pretty tough trans. My 77 Aspen R/T that I race with came with this trans and still runs good. Guess I'll use the money for something else. I've seen SMR race his Hemi Dakato with a 904 trans so they must hold up well
