... could it be used for some "creative" intake plenum rework, such as what was done w/ welding & grinding by Hughes below to modify a spread-bore intake flange into a square-bore design?

I've been using Belzona products since the '80s. They were expensive then, hate to see the prices now. Their lines have changed so whatever i used back then is outdated.

Nice thing about Belzona is the technical service you can get just by asking.

It's an extremely high grade epoxy product with different formulations for different uses. In the '80s it cost more than $150 per kg. I had a friend who patched a big hole in an Olds 455 block with some stuff he pirated out of work. It did the job, let him get the jet boat back in the water.

Brad I am just throwing this out there but by time the second intake was ported correctly how close would it be size wise to the first picture? Why don't you play sizing a carb base gasket to see if you could just square it up or go to a dominater flange size.

Good stuff. Expensive, but I can't think of anything better for what you want to do with it. Prep is king when you do stuff like that. Surface needs to be CLEAN and rough for best adhesion. You can even drill and tap the stuff in some non-critical applications where you can't use a helicoil or thread insert.

I think the same amount of the #1111 is about $200 today.

Nope, not cheap. But apparently one of the few products like that available today that is alcohol resistant, and I've already had one bad experience with a different brand going soft and coming loose after exposure to E10 fuel.

I actually have one of the Hughes-modified intakes (a.k.a. "Franken-intake") that's since been reworked to use w/ my CNC-ported Victors.

The work done with their welded-up carb flange actually filled in the gap you'd see under a standard square-bore gasket laid over the spread-bore style flange. In addition, it provided a radiused transition into the tops of the runners not possible by trying to rework the spread-bore style.

When I spoke briefly w/ Dave H. months ago about whether they still offer that mod, he said it wasn't something they'd done in a long time and didn't know what the cost would be today. I remember how expensive it was when I had my intake modified... and I suspect my being able to replicate the same thing -- even using an expensive product like Belzona -- would still be a lot less than having them do it at today's price.
