Have a '75 D100 my son and I are swapping a 440 into. Did the factory apply this sealer (like rubberized undercoat) to areas of the firewall or did some doofus do it after the fact?

Agreed. Maybe a cover up trying to find a leak. Did it have rotten carpets or rusted floor pans?

Outcast Dodge guy.

Yeah, you can't really tell but on the far right side of the photo it looks as though someone placed an oval shaped stencil or mask over the area and sprayed.

I'm going to try heating it and scraping with a putty knife to remove. It looks like hell.

There is a water leak on the driver side. Not sure yet if it's in the cowl or the a-pillar. And because of that I have some cancer on that side of the floor.

Pretty sure its factory. There is a black sealer on most of these trucks in those areas. Yours seems pretty sloppy, but who knows who started at the factory that day, first day on the job or hungover.

Some original 72-80 trucks on rcc and ebay showing sealer in the same places.

My 77 also has this. My father bought the truck new in 77 and this area has never been touched. It was a sloppy job from the factory.

I believe it was put on at the factory but it looks like someone may have added some extra at some point around that heater/ac box..

Seems like overkill. In any case it's been removed. Going to reseal around the heater box opening and spray some Viper yellow soon.
