I am making progress on my 65 valiant, i put a new firewall and i decide to lay a nice Amerlock 400 coat, you guys think i shoud go to bare matel, like using some type of paint striper perhaps do a little sandblasting? or just or just break the paint and smoth it out with sand paper? This is just a drag race car not a show car, the epoxy iam using may not be the best option out there, but is a free option... Thanks, Gilbert.

Yeah once you get your metal ready put some self etch on it then use your high build primer

Do a web search to find the product data sheet. Says it's self-priming over most surfaces and adheres to tight rust.
See for yourself, I'd be tempted to just shoot it.
That brand of paint is high quality, in general. We use it in industrial settings.

You're right on that, and it really seeps into the pores of the metal, btw The epoxy smell is a knockout......

Epoxy primer is the better option, IMO. It seals the metal from moisture, and is the ultimate sealer coat to block the existing paint from reacting with the new paint.

I always use a sealer after all the work is done (bondo and primer) before spraying the color

Read the sheet. I was just painting some epoxy over bare metal, thought an etching primer would help. The epoxy adhered to the primer more than the primer to the metal...peeled off in big flakes...
