I'm started to make plans to rebuild the 230 in my '57 Belvedere. I'm aware of VPW and Kanter. Does anyone know of other sources for engine parts? Just wanting to know my options. Thanks!

Egge. I used them a few years ago when rebuilding my buddy's 1937 Chrysler Marine flathead.

Not sure why this thread was moved. My car is stock - certainly not a street rod by any stretch! Could this be moved back to General or Q&A, please? I'm sure that anyone interested in street rods would ditch the 230!

They sell kits for some flatheads, but not the 230. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

You might be surprised how much stuff is available at NAPA and O'Rilley's. There are probably a lot of parts that interchange between a 218 and a 230. The flathead 6 was used in production until 61 and after that for industrial uses. Someone will be by here shortly with a web site that is great for info, I've been there, but don't have the web address. Gene

Thanks for the reply, Gene. I actually work part-time at NAPA. Unfortunately, not a whole lot is available anymore (but you're right, some stuff is). I was kinda hoping for a "kit", but all I've found is Kanter, and reviews of their customer service seem to be less-than-stellar.

That figures. Good luck with your search.

Almost all of the engine parts are available at rockauto, just not in a kit form. oldmoparts.com has parts too, no kit, with some parts rockauto doesn't have and other parts that may be cheaper.

Kanter and Egge are way overpriced.

BTW, since no one would hot rod a 230, Offy sells a dual carb intake, Summit stocks it

Andy Bernbaum and Vintage Power Wagons trade in a lot of flat head parts. At NAPA, the standard computer listings show some parts. Parts books show more. I got a replacement fuel pump with integral sediment filter from NAPA. It wasn't in the NAPA computer but it was in one of the books at the counter. It took some looking to find it but glad we did.

Try the forum at www.p15-d24.com . There are lots of knowledgable 'flathead six' people over there.

Supercuda - I think you misunderstood. I know there are "hot rod" parts, but like I said, I'm doing a stock-type rebuild.

ahy - Yes, I've gotten some parts at NAPA...water pump, etc. Unfortunately, many of the engine parts are not available from them. Believe me, I would get everything there if I could, having an employee discount.

Thanks for the input, everyone.

I think you misunderstood that some of us on the street rodder section do run the flathead 6, just pointing it out was all.

That's cool, maybe someday I will play around with some performance parts. For now, it'd just be nice to drive it without "fogging mosquitos".
