Take it, or send it, to a good Mopar trans builder and have them fix your unit so it won't hurt you when running it hard The stock front drum can explode, especially when using a trans brake

Why do you want to run a trans brake? You will then need a very high stall converter and that is pretty much strip only usage. Not street friendly.

I was kinda thinking the same thing ? My 63 is street/strip that is about 99% street as I race it about 2 times a year and I have alot of fun with it and I dont have a trans brake. Ron

I wasn't aware Id need a "High" stall. I believe the one I have now is 3000-3400.

Stall speed is less important than if the converter has a balloon plate so you don't swell it up when you're on the brake. Staying on the brake too long will kill a converter pretty quick.

Just asking, but if it's not a race truck why would you want the hassles of a brake?

So it will launch better at the track. I still want it to perform well.

Unless you have a pretty good rear suspension and tires a brake won't make much difference.

A real good trans brake that releases quick and clean will act like a car with a stick shift trans and clucth, if your converter will stall 2500 RPM against the trans brake at WOT then your chassis will see the same basic thng as dumping the clutch at 2500 RPM and then flooring the gas pedal Trans brakes leaves at WOT will find the weak parts in your trucks driveline and suspension

To answer you question. The trans needs to be disassembled to drill a hole in the high gear clutch piston. I would recommend a high quality rear roller clutch. An aftermarket front drum is always a good safety measure. Other than that at your power level nothing more that a quality rebuild. That being said , unless you're a dedicated bracket racer a trans brake is unnecessary.

One other thing that will get really annoying on the street, on most all modern brakes you have to hold the button down to back up. Not a real big deal, but it is very annoying, depending on where your button is.
