Needing a driveshaft built and local driveline supplier suggested a driveline made out of 3" .083 DOM material. Diameter seems a little small to me but I see other major suppliers making them out of the same material. Car will have less than 500hp and weigh in the 3400lb area. Any suggestions/comments greatly appreciated!

I have used Precision Driveline

And Dick's Driveshaft

Both are in Phoenix and are very good.

With less than 500hp it should be fine... but the
length is one of the important factors also... but
being a shop that builds the shafts they should know..
I have a 3.5" DOM shaft on both the race car and my Rampage

I used "Arizona Driveshaft" (480) 898-0829. Had mine made from 3.5" .083 DOM. My shaft was something like 43" long. You could probably get away with 3" at that HP level.

The rpm the driveshaft sees, the diameter, thickness and unsupported length are very important. You do not want the driveshaft operating near the first harmonic.
