I originally made my own front plate and speaker adapter for my RoadRunner, but now these are mass produced. Put ur 6x9"s in the rear tray and either #2 or #3 and U will have a solid, quality system. Also I put an iPod in the glove box..

Note that I do custom audio installs for different show cars (SEMA, CES), and can advise further if U need more support.

the 'cage' will hold it in and get a back brace for the rear of the unit. the only issue and it's a silght issue is getting the unit level enough so the cd has clearance under the heater controls. i of course assumed this was a 68-70 RR because they are of course the coolest........

Note that 68/69 are the same, 70 is different since the 70 RoadRunner has the ralley dash so the radio mounting plate is different. For a 70 RR we have used a radio delete repro plate and cut the DIN opening with a Dremel and carbide wheel. Regarding the back radio chassis support, no biggee the factory has a slotted bracket for the OE radio. Just make a short bracket and it drops rite in..

12V hookup is EZ as the fuse block is rite there by the glove box. Just unscrew and flip it over and use a 0.25" female tab connector on a switched terminal..

As far as the dash goes my Kenwood is installed in a 70 which as previously stated is different than the 68-9 models. Everything is typically the same with the exception of the finishes on the face plates. Mine had the stock pebble finish on everything. I removed those and fabricated all of those panels from aluminum. The cage installed into the aluminum and then I fabricated a bracket on the passenger side at the back of the radio to hold everything in. I did lower the opening in the aluminum a small amount to allow enough room for the radio face plate to flip open. I covered everything with a carbon fiber vinyl when finished.

Lets be kleer..
A 70 Satellite has the same dash and radio plate as a 68/69 RoadRunner. However... a 70 RoadRunner has a ralley dash like the 68/69/70 Charger and 68/69/70 Super Bee. So the radio mounting plates for a 68/69 RoadRunner are quite different in size/fit/finish than a 70 RoadRunner. Also some ralley dashes had a wood grain finish, I think the GTX did...

If your speaker tray in the 68 is the same as my 70 you will have to modify the passenger side opening for a speaker. I installed a pair of Boston Acoustic 6x9's in the rear deck. The passenger side speaker opening is 90* off from the driver side. If you are not going to cut the package tray you could just install the speakers the way they are with no speaker covers and it would not matter.

So I just checked what I have in regards to the faceplate. I bought part number MP5550 from Year One several years ago. Unfortunately its no longer listed on their web site. Looking at the pictures however, it looks identical to the Classic Industries part listed above. Any experience with this older Year One part?

I just purchased #3 on the above list. May as well have something up front too, eh?

Oh, and yes, my car is a '68RR.
