I have a 1985 dodge ram with the 9.25 12 bolt rear end and 5 on 5.5 bolt circle. I have been looking for a sure grip unit for it and found a lot on eBay, however they are not very descriptive. I am wondering what spline my rear end should be and what years of sure grip unit will work?

I am also considering lowering my truck and was wondering if anyone knows a good source for the van LCA's? What do you use for the rear?

My truck has the standard, non tilt column. Will an OE tuff wheel adapter fit on it? It is a 2x4 with an 833 4spd.

Where can I get a front sway bar lot for this truck?

And lastly for the moment,
Does anyone know if champion radiators makes a radiator for this truck

Thank you.

Jeremy

yes the Tuff wheel with adapter will work on your non tilt column

sway bars are hard to find on the D series trucks some had them some didn't bout like a 70/30 chance

There was a c-clip change around '85. That will be your determining factor on what suregrip units will work and what wont.

I asked this question to Dr Diff (Cass) and here was his response:

Quote:

I don't know the dimensions, but in 1985, the thickness of the C-clips and the depth of the groove in the axles increased. I would stick the axles and C-clips into the carrier and check the fit.

So assuming your '85 has the newer parts, I believe '85-up should fit.

Spline count was unchanged as far as I remember on all 9 1/4's.

Outcast Dodge guy.

Van control arms can be bought new from any number of sources (pricing vary's widely) or get a set from a donor.

for the rear you flip the shackle using a front spring hanger on the rear then flop the axle on top of the springs, use car shock plates-ubolts.

or use the drop shackles on the rear, I just got a set at the parts store for 43$ and they worked fine on my 85 stepside.

I built and added traction bars on top of the leafs to the front hanger.

so now I have the 88 440 truck with a flip flop and the 85 stepside with drop shackles.

both sit about the same the way I likes them.

look for a steering box/frame support bracket if yours does not have one when you add the sway bar.

IIRC the stock d-150 sway bar will not work with the pocketed lower control arms...I think you use a 1 ton bar.

Not in stock location but you can move it forward on the frame & it will go on the end links are angled funny but they work
If you use 0ne ton LCA's you don't have to move it at all
they came with sway bars too

Here's a straight up axle flip for a net of 5" with a lot less work than all that to gain just 2-3" drop or just a shackle
