Wife has 285/75-16s on her 2001 Ram 1500. Slight rubbing when turing in/out of a griveway or approuch and only driver side. It makes contact with the back of the inner fender in front. We also run a 16x8 Rim.

No sweat running 285 70 17's on your Off-Road, Greg, did it on mine. They work really well with our 4.10's and I'm out 5% on the odometer.

The added lift from the factory helps for clearance on the front, I just had to trim my front flaps a little.

Also, I highly recommend these Michelin LTX AT2's: they are the narrowest 285 you can get, they are very quiet on the highway and the mileage is unreal. I'm over 120,000 miles on these and am just about hitting the wear bars. I'll easily get another 10 or 20 out of them. You get what you pay for though, they don't give them away.

Thanks for the replies,
It made buying the larger tires a bunch better.., since there are no returns..
I went with the BFGs 285s .. they had to order them, I will post pics when they are on...

My Goodyear Wranglers (in pic) went 66K...

Yeah, I got 63 out of mine before the typical goodyear BS set in: cupping and out of balance. That's a goodyear for you.

Funny, never even did a wheel alignment and threw new Michelins on and they are wearing perfect............right to the bitter end. Notice also there's no weights needed: they balanced out perfect with just a few grams on the inside of the rim.

I kill a lot of tires at work and am not a fan of the Dick Cepek's or BFG A/T's. We have had the best luck with Goodyear and even better luck with Toyo's.

My truck tips the scales at 8400 with me in it so YMMV.
